Undone by substabdard goalkeeping and defensive strategy
by satarupa sen on Jun 25, 2010 08:47 AM

The strikers never gathered the courage to shoot at the goal. Even in front of the goal, they were looking to pass it on. The other problem was when you adopt a defensive strategy you need a sound goalkeeper. Italy's keeper was not fit to play in WC - he let in easy goals in both matches. It was sad to see such a keeper for a country that has produced the likes of Dino Zoff, Walter Zenga and Buffon.

Brazil Argentina Finale
by Yegna narayana on Jun 25, 2010 06:59 AM  | Hide replies

It will be great if the final happens between Brazil-Argentina or between Germany-Spain.
It seems England have less chances and hope they will lost in QF's.

It could be anybody's game from now onwards. One loss and u are out of the tournament. My dream final would be Argentina VS Brazil. If that happens it would be a game worth going miles to watch for anyone. For then we will see the real beauty of football for no one plays like the Latinos.

But i feel sad that Italy lost and are out for they are on song one of the most delightful team ever to watch. May be infusion of new blood would lift them up and show up for next Cup.

Italy's defensive football paid the price

Italy's defensive football paid the price. For them forwards were always unwanted extras.

Yes, a defensive team like Italy never deserved to win a world cup.
But last world cup, they turned to be lucky.
Spoiling the games of opponents ...
and sneaking in an opportunistic goal to pull through ...
Good riddance of a pretender from this World Cup.
Go home Azzuris and learn to play better soccer.

Good to see Italy out
by milind gade on Jun 24, 2010 11:34 PM  | Hide replies

It is good to see boring teams such as France & Italy are out of the World cup. The problem is that players from England, France & Italy play convoluted and boring game in world cup but a different game in domestic club championships. So we see sorry game from the likes of Theirry Henry, Rooney and cannavaro in world cup whereas the same players move like tigers in domestic leagues.

it is same like our cricket hero.. they play well in IPL, but when it comes to play for country.. they show their true character..
But I must say today they played well and won Asia cup.

FYI: There is no team India. It is BCCI. Hence, the question of playing for India does not arise.

Will there be Upset tomorrow !!!
by Kumar on Jun 24, 2010 11:33 PM  | Hide replies

SPAIN came into this world cup as heavy favorites.

Tomorrow. Chile vs Spain. Chile already won 2 games and have 6 points. Spain with 3 points. Swiss have won 1 game with 3 points and play Honduras.

If Swiss can win against Honduras and if spain loses to Chile or draws. They are out. That would be disaster and biggest shock of the world cup.

No big shock ... pretenders are being booted out by the REAL contenders.
France, Italy deservedly kicked out ...
England narrowly scraped through, but surely to be whipped in pre-quarters.
Spain is waiting to get the blushes, unless their big guns start firing.
But David Villa's form shows that they may be on the return path.
