Lack in interest in football causing us dearly. We follow football only during world cup and then it's no where in the news. Same is the case with hockey too.
If you look at our Football and Hockey team history, then we were one of the best in Asia in 50s and 60s. After 1983 cicket world cup, cricket got a new leash of life and lots of people started showing interest in it that was the time when other sports started to decline in our country.
To develop this beautiful game, we need sponsers and no one interested in putting their money for it. In most of the other countries, it is private companies who take the responsibility for developing the infrastructure where as in our country, they just want to make money. Look at Mukesh Ambani, he owns Mumbai Indian team but does he own any stadium in Mumbau. we need these corporates to build infrastructure and sponser player otherwise there wont be any improvement in the standard of Football in our country and it might be very if we don't take the action now.

If cricket playing nations were more like football,Than i would say that India's position would be same as of football, and than people would lose intrest in the game.

Well, you may call the above results as upsets in World Cup. In today's context, people may be tempted to give a different colour to it and may conclude that Match Fixing has been in vogue since 1950 referring to the upset caused by US against England.

by Rizwan Khan on Jun 17, 2010 04:15 PM  | Hide replies

True say of hitler banning cricket. The english tried to take the game to germany. Hitler sat for 5 days watching cricket being played. After the 5th day he asked, who won?? He was told it was a draw! Hitler then shouted back that he wasted an entire week doing NOTHNG and that this game should never ever be played in germany!!

Hitler i salute you for this act!

True story..

Asia's 4 cricketing nations have very lazy players like in cricket. Football will never match to them. And without effort also players can grab money in cricket.

The West Indies cricket team became weak when they started playing Basketball instead of cricket.

The English cricket team became weak when EPL become the crowd puller.

Hope Aus and NZ will also goes behind football so that India can assured of World Cricket championship all ways.

Contrary to what you think, Aus and NZ will most certainly send other players to play in FIFA, so that we can continue to be hammered by Ponting and Vettori's men..... :(

But nevertheless, your thoughts were at least worth dreaming ... ;-)

cricket = 1 day wasted in life!
by Rizwan Khan on Jun 17, 2010 04:09 PM  | Hide replies

Watching cricket is like wasting an entire day of ones life!! cricket is a game made by WHITE guys and used as a tool for silly idiots to follow. Any person following cricket is akin to wasting an ENTIRE DAY doing nothing!! No wonder 95% of the world have NO interest in cricket.

Cricket is the biggest bore. How can people sit and waste a day in ones life! I admire Hitler for banning cricket in germany. He called it a WASTE!!

It was n't that big a shock....!!!
by abhishek banerjee on Jun 17, 2010 02:24 PM

I believe the Swiss win against Spain is not a big shocker. You must understand Switzerland didn't concede a single goal in their last 5 world cup games (which includes the 4 world cup matches in 2006). They were table toppers in their group while qualifying for this edition. Spain, apart from winning the 2008 Euro, has lost out to US in last years confed cup and is slightly overhyped considering the fact that this team has never crossed the quarterfinals in WC history. Hence, the result is much less of shocker than a potrayal of daunting swiss defense and plenty of missed chances by Spain.

What a disappointing world cup!!
by sandeep kumar on Jun 17, 2010 01:38 PM  | Hide replies

No goals, no creativity, goals from tap ins, deflections, and teams playing defence oriented. No wonder Indians have switched back to cricket after the initial hype. My firm cafeteria showed football, and since there were no takers, was showing asia cup. Same with some pubs in blore, since hardly anyone, guys or gals, seemed interested. Cricket is iNdias religion, and if there has to be some interest for soccer, there better be some action packed close games not 0-0,or 1-0 games. I have seen more action in 5 overs of RCB than 5 hours of world cup.
