And then there was none!!
by Krishnarjun Adhya on Jun 18, 2010 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

The two big teams as they seem - Germany and Argentina would meet in the quaterfinals - which means that any one of them would go in to the Semis. The other teams that are expected to peak are Holland and Spain. Brazil has not come in with big names but their first match showed that they could sustain atleast till the Semis stages.

France , England and Italy has given lack lustre football. With France now at chances of getting out in the very first round!!

That leaves us with talking of the great Argentine team. With every opposition having 2 or more defenders marking messi - therefore leaving - either Di Maria or Tevez or Higiuan - clear to score. When will they play Aguero or Milito..?

Germans are there with their foundation - calculated , practised passes and set pieces...!!

Another good match would be Brazil Vs Ivory Coast!!!

So lets wait and watch

The possibility of matches for Argentina:
Vs Uruguay (II stage)16
Vs Germany in QF
Vs Nederlands/Portugal/Italy in SF
Vs Brazil in Final...
So whoever wins the QF match may face Brazil in Final.

South American football rocks
by kieran dsouza on Jun 17, 2010 09:45 PM  | Hide replies

Last night we saw Diego Forlan of Uruguay teach the South Africans some valuable lessons in football and today Argentina were simply superb!! Also the Honduras-Chile match was fast paced with beautiful accurate passing.

But for the South American teams the tournament would be lacking in goals and excitement

There is no doubt that the South Americans play a mesmeric brand of football that is pure sorcery, it is what you can call natural football that comes from the heart.

Arg can dish it out - but can they take it?
by NashikMarathi on Jun 17, 2010 09:39 PM

Argentina has played Nigeria and South Korea.

Argentina has the strikers and can definitely hit you but when they play teams that can strike back, hit them back, the question will be can they take it....

They have not played anybody who can hit them back. Not saying they are anything but a good team but still they have not been tested.

Countless stories in the past of dominating good play in groups and then disaster - the best was Denmark in 1986 with Preben Elkjaer and Michael Laudrup dominating the groups including 2-0 over Germany but then they ran into Emilio Butragueno in round of 16....

Argentina have this frightening look about them....
by Bhasmasur Rakshasa on Jun 17, 2010 08:50 PM  | Hide replies

This performance of Argentina would have sent shivers down the spines of other top contenders......

Except Germany, who look equally deadly, Argies look a cut above the rest........definitely sharper and better than Brazil, France, England, Uruguay who i believe are the other contenders for the title.....

I think Italy without Gianlugi Buffon are just a pale shadow of their former glorious days.....

I don't think Spain are title contenders cos their defence is too weak....

So, my ratings for the various teams is as follows :

1) Germany(best of the lot)
2) Argentina(superb attack)
3) Brazil(creativity in midfield and flair)
4) England(geniuses like Lampard and Rooney)
5) France(sheer mental toughness in big match situations)
6) Uruguay(dour defence and counterattacking prowess)

The world cup would be won by one of these only..

Bye,
Bhasmasur

Diego Maradona's men were simply superb today. They totally outclassed the Koreans and played a brand of football that was a joy to watch. They have a fabolous all round team with talented players galore led by that mercurial Lionel Messi who was unlucky again to not score a goal though he played very well

It is clear that this team is the team to watch and if they play the way as they did today, then there is no stopping them.
