Its a total myth that beckham is worshiped in the UK, i live here and i can tell you that he is not even liked. Infact he is hated by most fans. Its just media that try to hype him up. The last player who had fame due to his talent was Paul Gasgoine, gazza! He was the peoples champion. Beckham is nothing compared to him. Gazza touched the nations heart during the 1990 world cup. He reached a level in the UK where players like beckham can only dream off. Comparing Tendulkar to Beckham is insult to sachin. Sachin is admired beckham is not admired. He is just famous. There is a big difference.

Dude, even article on Sachin gets equally negative comments. Famous people with large fan base always get both sides as opinions will be as diverse as people.
I cannot understand the english people obsesion with beckham. He is very inconsistent in football, even youvraj who is known for his inconsistency is more consistent than him. Thy literally worship him.

beckham is a consistent player, though he plays for one of the low profile teams like Westham - he's got the talent to get recognized internationaly

every country gives excessive media attention to a sportsman and makes him or her to increase their popularity
beckham is good in soccer and sachin too good in cricket
cant expect both to be match winners in all the matches they play
