Most overrated team!
by sandeep kumar on Jun 09, 2010 03:50 PM  | Hide replies

i really hope this team loses in the first round, as they must be out of their minds to appoint a drug addict, overweight and someone who scores with his hand, and swears at camerapersons as a coach! And their team has someone like veron who failed a decade back, and not one defender in the class of terry or lucio. England have a far better team, and i hope they meet somestage and england send them packing. Also when was the last time they won anything?

Sandeep

When was the last time England made the semi-finals?

England are patent owners of the 'over-rated' tag every world cup.

One can understand your frustration that England could never produce a Maradona.

Maradona the greatest
by asha on Jun 09, 2010 03:08 PM

Maradona is the greatest ever to play football. Pele only come after him with other players like eusebio of portugal and others. But as a coach he needs to prove his greatness. I think it will be a exciting WC with England as strong favourites along side Argentina and Spain.

who questions maradona...
by subhasis gupta on Jun 09, 2010 02:11 PM  | Hide replies

only an idioitic news print like rediff can put forward articles where in maradonas genius is questioned....maradona s hand of god is always a issue of public debate but does the print media and specially rediff cares to show the next goal which is the goal of the century in the very next goal to hand of goal....no it doesnt coz its such a genious work that even pele would not have done it...it shows maradona's genius...shame on rediff...

But Subhasis, you must remember that without the "hand of God" goal, the next would have been unlikely. Once a team is down by a goal late in the game, they put all effort into equalising and thus a second goal becomes more likely.
It was a great individual effort but would not have been possible if England were defending.

But the hand of God goal was not shown again or discussed. Were there no other angles of this vedeo? He was great player but this one puts a question mark. His second goal was really goal of the century.

if i remember correctly, Argentina were 2-0 up after the goal of the century and the next england goal got it to 2-1.
One could also argue that if Argentina was 1-0 up with the 'great' goal, they would have defended their lead...
The fact of the matter is that Maradona is one of the greatest players of all times...but probably not so good as a coach....but i would any day watch a coach like Maradona who can surprise me and slide in the water when his team scores a goal rather than a stone faced Cappelo who looks so unemotional(although, obviously he's not)

Noronha,I cannot agree with ur theory. If you see the history you can find score of 1-1 than any other score. As per your theory no of matches scoring 2-0,2-1 should be more than 1-1

i can always say one thing that either u have never played football or u dont understand the game...football is not like cricket...and specially peter shilton the best goalkeeper of the time...england had their chances but they were not able to covert corners to goal...and please dont say anything about maradona...coz u will be in trouble as he is a genious the world has ever seen....

and in football there are many instances where goal were done by hand...nowadays a bit of it is legalized...and maradona has not done the same with intention
