Final showdown
by Michael on Jun 04, 2010 04:31 PM

If nadal wins the french open, then he becomes #1, which in my opinion is not easy with soderling likely to be at the final after today's semis. rafael has more milestones to reach before he can equal roger's records of 16 GS titles and record weeks in #1. nadal is yet to win US open.

HE couldnt close out the match at 5-4 today against melzer. He admits he is "nervous". So he is nervous. No 1 is just a number. Psychologically nadal deep down needs to believe that he is the no 1. How many times have u folks seen a tired federer? in the past 5-6 years I havent seen a tired federer. On teh contrary nadal hasnt so much as put up a consistent season. If he wins in the first half then he loses in the second and vice versa. By the time he comes to the season ending masters he is a dead dog. LAst year after wimbledon he didnt beat a single top ten player. I admit he came off an injury. But nadal will be lucky to win this french open in case he beats soderling, which i believe he wont. Next year there will be more competition and ppl like del potro will be back in the circuit. On hard courts cilic berdych and gulbis are all fast becoming very tough players to beat. Nadal s future looks bleak. Federer will stick around and try and squeeze in as many slams as he can. Federer always has a great chance at the other majors. Nadal s only decent chance is at the french open. ppl will forget his "clay king" title if he loses here. IF nadal loses here i am very very sure he will be beaten at wimbledon. No chance at US open. He is a great champion though. He rather was one..!

How many times have we seen a tired federer?? hmmm.. lemme see... maybe all of the 2008 season leading upto the Australian Open 2009 when it all came out in tears. If feeling nervous is a big deal and a psychological disadvantage, how big is weeping after losing the finals of a GS to a tough to crack nemesis. After losing Australian Open 2009 (after losing his beloved Wimbledon title) was when Roger probably realised that he may won his last GS at NY in 2008. He couldn't believe his luck when he realised that he wouldn't have to play Rafa at the French Open finals and THAT brought back his lost confidence. So the revival of Roger's fortunes has really got to do with Rafa's going weak on his knees..!!

He may have had trouble closing out the match at 5-4 on his serve. I personally felt he took it easy for a while and that speaks of confidence. When he was pushed a little, he brought back his best and closed out matters. Remember, he is yet to drop a set this year here. He hadn't lost one in 2007, 2008 either. Lets see what the rest of the year holds (starting from tomorrow's finals).

Arunkumar and all Nadal fans: It matters little for Federer who has nothing left to prove any more. It is Nadal who has to do all the running now and the pressure on Nadal. Let Nadal take over as No.1 player. It does not matter. Federer has achieved everything that is there to be achieved in Tennis. If Nadal is so great, let him reach at least 10 consecutive Semis in grandslams (leave alone the figure of 23 achieved by Federer)without missing any grandslam in between for sundry reasons. After that we will talk of Nadal achieving 16 grandslam titles! He has a long way to go to be placed alongside Federer. The only achievement of Nadal is: He is the best on clay after Borg and no one questions this!

Mr. Vasudevan: To your argument that Fed has nothing more to prove, lemme counter that. He has to prove himself against Nadal at Roland Garros. So it's not really nothing.

Hello Denzil: There is nothing more to prove even at Roland Garros, because Federer is second on clay to Nadal, which is an accepted fact. The moment he got an opportunity, Federer won the Roland Garros title! So, what is there to prove!

Mr.Vasudevan Outside Clay there record in grandslams is 2-2 ie pretty equal. But in clay it is Nadal all the way....so if federer is the greatest player then Nadal obviously is the slayer of greatest player.by the way it seems federer when comes against nadal has some mental block and looks half the player.he is actually afraid of nadal.still remeber how he wept after slayed by nadal in australian open final of 2009.

Manjesh: Read my post properly. Nadal's greatness on clay is accepted and no Federer fan questions it. Crying does not make Federer weaker but only shows how human he is, unlike inhuman Nadal fans. If Federer is afraid of Nadal, Nadal is afraid of the rest of the field. Remember, Nadal does not even reach the finals in many of the tournaments outside clay. He has reached Australian open finals just once and never reached US Open finals even once. Nadal has a looooooooooong way to go before being called the greatest. Defeating Federer on clay only makes Nadal great on clay not the greatest tennis player.

Defeating Federer on clay only makes Nadal great on clay not the greatest tennis player. If that is the case winning everything on Grass or Hard courts makes Federer the great Grass or Hard court player...Isn't it Sir...? Also Nadal has never
beaten by Federer in Roland Garros, At the same time Nadal has defeated Federer one time each on Roger's favourite surfaces Wibledon and Australia...Beating some one on his favourite surface, that too some one like Federer also require some greatness..right? I wont say that Nadal is great or Federer is great... I will say that it is an argument which has no end..:)

Melby: Greatest does not mean, not losing to anyone. That way, Djokovic and Safin have beaten Federer at Australian Open, that too when Federer was at his peak, and Delpo has beaten Federer at US Open. Does this make these three greater than Federer? The answer is a resounding NO. When we say `great', we talk of consistency and the consistency is 23 consecutive semis and 16 grandslam titles and this makes Federer the greatest!

French Open was fixed by nadal and federer
by CAMPU COTIYA on Jun 04, 2010 10:07 AM  | Hide replies

Last year Nadal allowed federer to win french open, in return federer gave up wimbledon title.

This time both federer and nadal have decided to give it to Robin Soderling.

Let me give this news early....

Robin Soderling wins the French open in 5 sets..... 5-7 6-4 7-6 6-7 6-3 ....

Nadal's reply: Wellllll,,, it was a chance for me to take revenge .... but soderling really played well. He deserves the title....

Match is fixed. Soderling will win 99%. Only chance of Nadal winning is higher bets on Soderling. Then soderling will loose.

Sad thing is I didnt have any proofs that match is fixed. This is only my general prediction....

Nadal is better player than soderling... as per stats nadal should win.
