Soderling the new champion
by Harsha k on Jun 02, 2010 11:23 AM  | Hide replies

The person who has defeated federer went on to win the championship for the past 5 years. Hope Soderling wins his first championship.

No, Not this time.
This time Nadal is Fit & Healthy and he will crush Soderling in the Finals.

In fact, not only in French Open but since 2004 either Federer wins a grand slam tournament or the man who beats him wins it - Safin (Australian Open) Djokovic (Australian Open) Nadal (6 grandslams) and Del Potro (US Open) all won and they beat Federer either in the Semis or in the finals!

There is no doubt that this is Soderling's year......if and when he clashes with Nadal, i think Nadal will be able to take out one set at most.......

Federrer has nothing to loose
by Bala on Jun 02, 2010 11:16 AM

I really feel Federrer needs to lift GS anymore to prove his talent.
Looks like he started shifting his focus to his personal life.
Win or defeat doesn't matter for this Father of a Twin.

Remarkable achievement, wow! Will be hard to match by any athelete in any sports. Not even Michael Jordon /LeBron James / Koby Bryant / A Rod have been able to dominate like this. Fed is a true champ.
But I wonder if Rafa wouldn't have been injured last year then whether Fed would have ever won a French Open. If he wins it again this year then he will put it beyong all doubts.
Good luck to Roger and Rafa. May the best player win.
----

Looks like Federer couldn't prove himself. There will stil be doubts about his ability on clay as compared to the other surfaces. If last year Rafa was not injured and Soderling has not taken him out, then I wonder if Federer would have ever completed his career slam.

Looking forward to Soderling taking on Rafa / Djokovic in the final (it is not a forgone conclusion that Rafa would be in the finals; he still has to beat the ever-formidable Nole). Should be an interesting match.

How Can ??
by shakil on Jun 02, 2010 10:31 AM  | Hide replies

Federer may be great player, But...
How can this be Head Line on Rediff ??
India( Somdev) has Lost in First Round,
Queen Sania is not playing, we in India should be neutral to what happening in Tennis,
Instead we should be watching Tri-seris in Zim.
Soccer is best option even though India yet to qualify, Now forget Federer, Nadal and Joko, Just Watch - Messi, Kaka, Ronaldo, Rooney.

Perhaps, an era is coming to an end!
by VASUDEVAN V on Jun 02, 2010 10:30 AM  | Hide replies

With the defeat of Roger KING Federer in the quarter finals of the French Open one feels that an era is slowly coming to an end. But for a brief period in 2008-09, he dominated the Men's Tennis since Wimbledon 2004 like no other. He has reached the Semi Finals or better of a Grand Slam 23 consecutive times from Wimbledon 2004 to Australian 2010. He has 16 Grand Slam titles, has won all the majors and at one point of time in his career he won 25 consecutive finals that he entered, before being defeated in the finals of a tournament. Finally, age is catching up with him - he is just one month shy of 29. Younger, fitter and powerful servers are finally standing up to him and delivering. Of course, clay is his least favourite surface and one may feel that it is too early to write his epitaph, more so with Wimbledon, his most favourite tournament, round the corner. But, the fact remains that Federer era is definitely coming to an end in Tennis. The way Soderling served and played yesterday night, I certainly fancy his chances of winning the tournament. From what I have seen of Nadal this year at the French Open, though he is winning, the zing that he usually displays on his favourite surface, clay, is certainly missing. Soderling also must be fancying his chances!

looking for cadre Das
by ramrahim butteridli on Jun 02, 2010 10:23 AM  | Hide replies

I'm looking for a CPM cadre Das who was shouting his throat hoarse and yelling at everyone who was saying Federer is yet to prove himself on clay. For some reason I don't see the cadre shouting today.

Any clues what happened overnight!!? Where are you hiding cadre??
