Iyer's statement
by Ganesh V on Jul 28, 2010 10:57 AM

Now the time has passed to argue about CWG happening or not. Now, it is the responsibility of India and especially Delhi Govt to see that CWG is a success. I guess it is time all the countrymen should not talk negative till the games are over. We can always talk of pros/cons once the games are over. Right now the priority is to make the CWG happen.

remember the past asian games
by R Balasubramanian on Jul 28, 2010 10:38 AM

If the readers remember the past asian games hosted by india during Indira Regime, it was total dismal and indian athletes did not win even a single medal (I suppose Usha won one medal) and many felt the amount spent was a colossal waste when at that time, indian poverty was at around 67%. For the convenience of indian players Kabaddi was included and as fate decides we did not qualify in this game also.

When the country has still population of around 46% who are below poverty and children are not able to afford quality education, farmers committing suicide, very poor infrastructure, dubious functioning of aviation and railway ministries and the un-imaginary price raise which the common man is feeling the heat for the last one year, it is outrageous to spend hundred thousand crores on sports from the tax payers money.
Its sheer stupidity if people endorses their support for this disaster game which I bet India will be last in the list.
I stand with Aiyar's statement which is in the interest of the nation and its people.

Will the games infrastructure be really ready ?
by Globalcrusador on Jul 27, 2010 08:46 PM

It would have been much nicer if, from day one, one or more reputed project consultants were associated with readying the infrastruct- ure for the upcoming games. With due apologies to Suresh Kalmadi, one wonders what project management skills does he have or has acquired.
What I can foresee is, typical of Delhi's ethos, people will keep claiming it will be ready by the target date and when it is found it is not ready on the desired date, each one will protect his backside and start blaming the other, something we all are familiar with in the hockey management environment. This is exactly what is going to happen.

Outpourings of a frustrated politician.....
by Globalcrusador on Jul 27, 2010 08:39 PM  | Hide replies

Mani Shakar Aiyar's outbursts are the outpour- ings of a deeply frustrated man, marginalized by his own party. The tragedy in India is everyone looks only at the expense side where- as most countries that have hosted similar games earlier have also used the occasion to boost tourism and earn 3-4 times what they originally spent, thro' spendings by the large number of players and audience like to visit during these games. India as a businessman, should also now look at how it maximizes its earnings during these games.

Globalcrusador :- A rotten mind...Mr.Crusdaor before giving such remarks..try to understand the actual requirements of this country..then priorities and then comment..hosting game and looting public money by hyping it should not be the priorities of the country like India..

The question is not of expense but of where the Mani... sorry... money is being spent. If you bother to read the complete text of what Mr Aiyar has said, rather than what has been 'extracted' by lazy reporters and incompetent editors, you'll see that he is saying the money would have been better spent on developing a sporting culture among the youth rather than on big events with their fake national prestige.

Rightly said! The amount being spent is not small. This is not the governments money. Its the citizens money.I am 100% sure this will be mis utilised & there will be many many millionaires (mainly politicians) after the games.
