Finally a not so atrocious footballing article from rediff....
by TruthAndFact on Jul 13, 2010 07:32 AM  | Hide replies

Nayak to Khal Nayak award: Here the editor is looking like a right buddhu trying to apply his local bollywood expertise in football..the so called Bollywood expertise articles from rediff is laughed at even by South Indian fans.

Felip Melo was never a hero for Brazil never mind Khal Nayak, a below average footballer and was voted as the worst footballer in Italy last year, one of the reason Juventus slipped in to midtable and was rightly ridiculed. Nonetheless this time Brazil as a whole were below average, there were no jogo bonito or star players for them...Kaka past his best before three or four years, Robinho a flop in big European clubs were their main attacking players as expected they were knocked out by the first decent team they faced.

B Grade...
by Sanjay on Jul 12, 2010 03:46 PM  | Hide replies

I think the whole competition was dull and boring. The 'stars' did not perform and the football was uninspiring and boring. Football players are overpayed and spoilt... there is no passion anymore.

Why can't India find a football team in a country of 1 billion people???

When I was at my School/College time,(Madurai St.Mary's School and Palayamkottai St.Xavier's College - Tamil Nadu) everybody was interested in playing Foot Ball, Hockey,Volley Ball, but during those period, there was no such media coverage like present days TV.
Once this TV coverage became active, due to involvement of many VIPs of India, the Cricket got more attraction and everybody was forced to switch over to Cricket only.
The Media coverage is giving importance to Cricket only. That is why people in India, become crazy for Cricket only (knowingly or unknowingly), the game which is played in limited countries.

Read the ending remarks of this article. That clearly explains the fact that cricket is not the culprit. Now a days, any game, be it cricket, soccer or basket ball, only one factor is important. And that is money. For generating money, one need a professional set up and needs supports from sponsors. A truly professional football association can bring in all laurels to India.
Ironically, in spite of some issues, BCCI is the one and only professional sporting body in India and that's why cricket is gaining popularity. Once upon a time, Hockey was India's passion. But the lack of a professional body for that game is behind the current situation.

the paul octopus MUST BE renamed.
by kari on Jul 12, 2010 03:34 PM  | Hide replies

this was something that was completely and totally forbidden in the Word of God and the reason is because the stars can’t tell your future, they can’t tell your present—no way. That’s the revelation of God alone involved in telling the truth; that’s just a demonic way to capture the fancy of people so that the demons can persuade them toward a certain behavior. In Daniel 1, it says, “In all matters of wisdom and understanding, the king of Babylon inquired of them. He found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers in all his realm.” When he consulted God’s people, he found them ten times better! And that’s an understatement.

Verse 2 talks more about the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers and shows that they were inadequate, they were in error, they were helpless, they were hopeless. In Daniel 2:27, it talks about soothsayers, astrologers, and magicians again.

So, no Christian is to have anything to do with them at any time, at all. Don’t even fool with that, don’t even play around with it—it just opens up an avenue for Satan to influence you.

This referee should've been awarded the "Golden Card" award!

I don't think anyone would've umpired so "efficiently"in any of the matches held,

He was simply out there like a crane, "beaking"
every other "Fish" around at a simply wag of its "tail"!

Great, truly efficient

Most disgusting part
by waste cricket on Jul 12, 2010 03:27 PM  | Hide replies

was the hand-stopping of Ghana's goal by Uruguay's Saurez which eliminated Ghana from the tournment, crashing hopes of a whole continent.

His act was disgusting and his reaction later when Gyan missed the penalty kick was simply horribly unsportive. They didnt deserve a place on semis.

Award to England.
by syed ullah on Jul 12, 2010 03:27 PM

They were one of the favourites team to win the world cup before the start of the tournament, but they lost to a highly ranked team Germany, which is getting FIFA World No:1 ranking. England players deserves this award.

Syed Basheer,
Hyderabad.
