Asian Teams
by Prashanth DSouza on Jul 13, 2010 02:26 PM

Though they were unable to bring home any silverware, it was heartening to see Asian teams, specifically Japan and south korea performing very competently and keeping their flags flying high at this world cup.

It is a sign of things to come, perhaps, and here's looking forward to india making it to the higher echelons of world sport, sooner rather than later.

The US has proved that a sustained and well planned program can ensure success at all levels, club and international.

Previously it was the lack of money. Today, that might not be as much of an impediment as before for India.

Thoroughly optimistic,

Total 14 Yellow card
by Akhilesh Chandra on Jul 13, 2010 12:15 PM

Rediff should increase its accuracy. There was 14 yeallow card. 9 to Holland and 5 to Spain. Out of nine, one player got 2 yellow card in same match, so coverted into Red card.

Johan Cruyff
by Suresh John on Jul 13, 2010 10:36 AM  | Hide replies

"Ironically, it was a Dutchman called Johan Cruyff who had perfected this tiki-taka kindaa game"

The statement sort of indicates that Johan Cruyff is some unknown entity. Typical Indian media. Cruyff was the 'total footballer', the best player and the Netherlands was the best team in 74 world cup, however they lost in the final to the resolute Germans. Had they won, probably, the world would have seen more teams taking to attacking and stylish football.
At least this world cup, we saw more attractive football from the top 4 teams, save for the finals. The Dutch tactics to frustrate Spain in the final was real bad, and in any case they ended up losing. Was better to lose it 4-2 than lose 1-0 with so many bookings and a red card

i think spain carrying WC to real madrid might not like their fans as they are big rivals of barca just like Ind-Pak. With only thier goalie being part of real madrid they will have lil cheer for WC glory. Myabe U can find bigger celebration n barcelona than in madrid.

The coach is originally from Atletico Madrid.

Spain is divided along political lines, this world cup win might help cement peace and unity in the country.

national football team

one of the reasons for the success of spanish team is that around 8 players play for the baracelona. they easily form the nucleus the national team. we can adopt the technique to form the national team. initially start with the selection of the best players to form the team. the team will play in all national and international tournaments. their payments shoukd be equal to the best among the football players. when one fails, doesnot show improvement, a better player than the one in the team is identified from the other teams and he will be inducted into the team. this way players get better integrated and understanding in the team improves. it should be on a continuous basis and not just when india partipates in international tournament.

With this approach, you have totally ignored the hard work that has gone in for nearly 80 long years before Spain could win the World cup for the first time.

There are no short cuts to winning a world cup. The sport has to be developed from the ground up. Fans have to follow the game, be passionate about it, and support their teams. An entire soccer infrastructure of stadiums, officials, teams, political support etc. has to be built from almost zero, before the team can even start participating at the highest level.

Unlike individual sports like tennis/badminton/chess, football needs many requirements to be fulfilled before it can make it big in India.
