Gobinda Barman
Oriental Superstition to the Occidental society
by Gobinda Barman on Jul 12, 2010 09:56 AM  | Hide replies

Its a sheer vague method. There is no logic behind this type of selection. Can octopus Paul detect the champion out of 32 teams? If I give him chance even 32!(factorials), how many times it can detect properly I have doubt. Placing the winner (anticipated by the Paul organizer) at the right place was also one trick. Thanks the organizer of Paul and the media for reminding me : the parrot on a wooden box with many envelopes containing the luck of many superstitious people of India.

Detecting a champion out of 32 have the probablity of being true 1/32 times, that is 0.03125 - whereas predicting 8 matches correctly need the probablity of 1/(2 raise to 8)that is 0.039. Which is very close to what it needs to predict a winner from the 32 countries, so your point is illogical

Life span of an octopus is only 3 years. Paul is already 2.5 years old. Hence if india wants paul to predict the 2011 Cricket world cup winner, they should do it now. :-P

Some Logic Behind this !!!!
by Samir Vora on Jul 10, 2010 03:26 PM  | Hide replies

If you have carefully noticed, all the winners which Paul has predicted correctly so far were the ones which were placed on the right side of the stand. The flags were placed according to FIFA rules which are alphabetical in nature

Australia - Germany (left - right stand)
Germany - Serbia (left - right stand)
Ghana - Germany ((left - right stand)
England - Germany (left - right stand)
Argentina - Germany ((left - right stand)
Germany - Spain ((left - right stand))

So you can see all the Paul did was picked the right side of the stand and thus you have the results

For the last third place prediction also , they have done the same thing

Uruguay - Germany ((left - right stand)

and same goes for Final

Netherlands - Spain ((left - right stand)

and see what PAUL has picked..

So dont you see some LOGIC BEHIND THIS

I request the german aquarium Octopus to leave the Creature deep into the sea. inspite of the loss for the Germans beacuse of Octopus they should throw him into deep ocean. The creature is unncessarily creating tension by predicting. this has negative effect on the players. that is reason germans lost the match against Spain unncessarily.

it is choosing brightest flag as winner(coincidence)
by sudhakar on Jul 10, 2010 11:03 AM  | Hide replies

He is attracted to yellow.
In all the flags he was asked to choose, there is always yellow.
Germany 0:1 Spa in
Argentina 0:4 Germany
Germany ; 4:1 England
Ghana &nb sp; 0:1 Germany
Germany ; 0:1 Serbia
Germany &n bsp; 4:0 Australia

You see in all the countries that Germany played against, except Spain no country have yellow color in their flag.

Now when Germany played against Spain, Spain has the more yellow area than Germany. Paul picked Spain.

Now when Spain plays against Dutch, obviously paul will pick Yellow spanish flag.

......
now compare germany vs serbia flag ......as serbia flag contains red colour at 1st block so its more brighter...it will always choose serbia.....
