Uruguay vs Nederlands
by Srinivasan Iyer on Jul 07, 2010 06:04 PM

The referee-ing in this game was very poor. The Nederland players used to fall without any reason and the referee would penalise the opposition. The bigest offenders in this drama of falling down was Robben and Sneider! Also the Sneider goal was suspect for an offside by another player of his side! The answer is to have two referees for each game as in hockey and four line referees two on either side.

Referees' errors
by SHERLY SAJAN on Jul 07, 2010 04:54 PM

Disallowing a clear goal (after all it os for the goal the teams are sweating out for one and half hour) is totally wrong. Referee is human being and bound to make mistake. But this type of mistakes can be corrected immediately by the TV Referee in consultation with both the captains and the referee who officated the match. But it has to be done immediately because of the nature of the game.

Then, let us make more and deliberate mistakes, so that we have all the fund and the real talent and merit in football is kicked out. That would be stupid.

To make a mistake, the animal must first know what is right. They do not know that. An animal behaves and acts like an animal and not like a human being with understanding. If it behaves according to human propriety, it can be by simple, basic, training and nothing else. So, animal does not make a mistake and it can always return to being a full-fledged, raw animal.

Show Cards to referees too
by sweetguy on Jul 07, 2010 04:09 PM  | Hide replies

When referees make mistakes do not allow them to walk scot-free. Introduce coloured cards to them also on the basis of gravity of mistakes. If shown red referee should not conduct any other matches in the tournament. If yellow is shown debar him from one match.

true but that will put the refrees in lot of pressure and they may not be able to concentrate out of tension. better way is if players are doubtful that refree decision is wrong they should be allowed to appeal to third umpire like in cricket and using latest replay technologies the decision can be corrected

Good suggestion. But, the referee often does not have any doubts whatsoever about his decisions. Therefore, it is best if the THIRD UMPIRE is continuously referred to and advises the referee on each decision - not only goal, off-side, fowls etc. but all decisions.
