Why are you/we (including rediff) considering only cricket or Football..there are many other sports where we have won though on Individual sports. Just within last few months at least three people have won at the highest level:
Saina Anand Paes (Rediff did not even report this wimbledon win!!)

messi is a playmaker if he has not scored a goal doesnt mean he has floped.

Messi is a prodigy, but he did flop together with Ronaldo, Rooney, et al. at the world cup. And that is normal.
