ups and down in sports and politics
by raman govindan on Jul 05, 2010 06:33 PM  | Hide replies

only in indian politics one can be the leader for several generations. in all other fields a man has to prove continuously. even in government service he has to give a certain output to stay.

this is mainly the problem in Indian culture and society. hire and fire culture should be made possible everywhere.

There is nothing to Shock abt his exit, it was on the cards from the first round match itself when he lost first 2 sets.

10 years of ruling over the court, 16 grand slam titles, the only player on the circuit having won grand slam on all surfaces. He is really one of the greatest tennis players world has produced.

I havent't seen pre-Borg era. But the legacy is is like - Borg, McEnroe, Lendl, Becker/Edberg, Sampras/Agassi, Federer/Nadal, ...

However, the order of the world is - Everything to come to an end, Good or bad. Federer has still lot of tennis left. But his supremacy in tennis is almost over.

well federer is lucky nadal came very late...after sampras retired there wre very few good players left i seen all the generations from 1980 to 2010 and feel the best generation for tennis was in the pete sampras era...lot of great players who wre very competitive and skills i would really rate pete a bit higher then federer and dont forget there was goran who was always there in semifinals of wimbledon..but only to loose out to sampras for so many times hadnt sampras not there gorav would atleast had 5-6 titles...federer enjoyed a good spell of no competitive tennis... thats the reason he won so much as soon as nadal came he saw how bad he is

Federer started won major titles after 2004 only, and Nadal also started playing at the same time.... so u don't say there was no competitor for federer, infact federer has Nadal, Andy Roddic, Marat safin......

ROGER IS NOT DONE
by Deborah Slockett on Jul 02, 2010 11:41 AM

It is so upsetting to me that reporters and commentators are so quick to judge ROGER FEDERER. He's only won 16 grand slams and broke countless of other records! I am appauled that Mary Carrillo and the rest of those jerks would give up on such a talent. Didn't they learn their lesson last time when everyone thought Roger was done? Don't they remember that everyone said he was done and he then came back and broke Pete Sampras record? Remember a couple of days ago Nadal complained about having pain and everyone in the booth said such nice and glowing things about him being so strong because he won that match even though he was injured. I question whether he was really injured. He and a lot of others always say they are sick or injured and everyone believes them, but when Roger said that he had an injury he is told that he is making excuses. Give me a break and give Roger a break. He's only been number one for almost 7 years. Let him rest now and he will come back with a vengeance. You all just wait and see...

Ridiculous
by Sudden Lee on Jul 02, 2010 10:33 AM

Reading too much into this defeat than required. Federer has not been in the best physical shape and that is showing in the results. I'm not saying he's going to win 10 more GS or that he'll not be beaten again but to write off his career now wuld ve very foolish!
