Ref's Mistake
by edd Hogg on Jul 03, 2010 04:43 AM

Could I just say to the ref Lorrionda, if this was a genuine mistake and not the result of any corruption in himself - then he should not beat himself up because of this error. The World Cup hierarchy were encouraged to put in place the technology to help the referees make crucial decisions, and they denied the officials that support. In almost every sport in the world technology is used to determine crucial decisions - decisions the fans want to know are correct and fair, but the Bosses at the top have let the fans down big time. So Mr Lorriander take heart, we English will carry our set backs, which always seem to appear against Germany, with dignity , and ask the football fraternity in the world not to judge our football too harshly, for we want so much to play our game to the satisfaction of the discerning world fans. And once in a while, play up to our full potential.

If FIFA won't use of technology then it his high time World sports governing body should replace FIFA to Olympics as worlds no 1 game in the world....at least they use technology in Olympics, and four years of hardworking doesn't goes was for bullshit refreeing.

yes the decision was wrong and the ball crossed the line. technology would have helped the situation- but england were just not at the races and u can't put all the blame on the officials fo rthat defeat. somewhere along the line (:-) the players must take most of the blame because they just didn't perform. Name one player in the england side- apart from David James, who played well in the tourament

I agree England did not play well but that is no excuse for denying England a legitamate, probably a brilliant strike, a srike that would undoubtedly put heart into the England team and maybe turned their World Cup round. What is certain is that that goal came after some sustained pressure from England that should have been rewarded - It had the opposite effect, yet to be fair to England, they continued to press for the Equaliser, pushing men forward, but were cought on the break by a pacy young German team. I don't want to take anything from the German's; they were, as usual, methodical and clinicle in what they set out to do, but England were robbed of a brilliant strike that may have wrested the advantage back from the German's and created a platform for victory. Lets not forget that Lampard struck the bar after he had been denied the first time so he took his shooting boots to the game, and they are lethal when they are on target. We are dissapointed fans but we must not fail to give England some credit for the dignity with which they carried their misfortune. Edd

Altough it was a DISGRACEFUL decision not to allow the goal.I think it just speeded up the inevitable. We were not good enough and allowing the goal would have made the final score 4-2.
What it has done though is re-open the much needed Video Technology, not just for goal-line
but any contentious decision like they do in Rugby etc. When there has been clearly a decision made by the officials that is obvious to players. Then as it has been shown it only takes seconds to clear up.
In the past disallowed goals has cost teams relegation.Which cost clubs Millions when relegation has been the outcome.

1 Goal changes a game completely. Would you be willing to put your home or life savings on England not scoring another goal? They were on a high, they were running riot...then yet another blunder wiped BILLIONS from the world economy. England is supported by many countries around the world to name but one China. I admit Germany out played us in the 2nd half...but when a team pulls back 2 behalf time to make it 2-2 gets a team pumping....and the other on the back foot. The whole world watches the world cup and peoples livlihoods and happiness were afefcted by one mans mistake. Wars start over less!
