The author of this article does not seem to know football. Messi has been one of the best players in this world cup. He may not have scored goals but he has been responsible for creating some. Some cases he was unlucky in not scoring goals. It is not the number of goals scored but how many openings you create that is important. In the end the team is important than individual. That exactly is what Messi has done through out this world cup. Rediff please do not write such rubbish articles. Please see to it that the person writing the article, has knowledge about the game.

I concur with Mr.Tim's view. It is a team game. Sometimes the skills required to extricate/retrieve the ball and pass it on to the final goal shooter is far more challenging that shooting the goal itself. People like Messi,Ronaldo,Kaka, Fabregas who are more apt at these jobs are called Play Makers. Can anybody undermine the role of Fagregas in the last WC finals in dribling the ball away from Dutch defenders and make a convenient pass to Inievesta who scored an equally brilliant goal. It is high time FIFA acknowledges the role of more than one player in scoring the goal, wherever it is due, like they do in cricket for cought out, run out and stump out.

Messi did not score but played a pivotal role and in no way short of his expectations, Rediff pl make someone to write sensible article on football.
How can you say Messi is a flop in this worldcup....players overall performance matters...Messi is moving ball very well and creating opportunities for the team n tis is wht team want if ur goals are dried up....Its a plaeasur to watch kaka, Messi, Xavi..how they introdude the opponents....Rediff dont spoil our mood in the morning

you know i agree....putting them in same line as of Rooney and Ronaldo is big BS. ROoney and ROnaldo were not able to display their presence at all as how they do for their clubs.. Also putting Tevez in the group is ridiculous. He was practically on fire in the match against Mexico. Author has done a very naive job of using a matrix of big names against no of goals.
Dear Author - It's not always required to score goals but it requires how he is helping the team to score goals. He is the best player and playing at his very best level. So open up your eyes and see his magic in the WC
rediff guys need to check wht has happend.... he only played 3 of teh 4 matches and has done wonders in this world cup.......... u guys suck man with ur analysis
I believe the author haven't analyzed the world cup in detail and is looking only the goal statistics to determine the worth of the player. I may agree for other players, but certainly not for Messi.
For rating Messi kindly consider the following along with the number of goals - 1. How is he playing the ball - During all the matches it has been fun to watch him handle the ball 2. Number of opposition players occupied to keep him in check - In any match, you can see that there are always 2-3 players from oppostion to mark him. This means the play is between 10 Argentina players and 8-9 oppostion players. Certainly a contribution from Messi.
3. Number of passes he gave to set up the goal - All the goal that Argentina have scored in the world cup, he has been instrumental in passing the ball that lead to the goal
Overall I don't think Messi has plyed badly ass has been made out in the article.
