It's really nice and inspiring that Our little old man is still a winner at the world level. I am sure he will continue to do so for few more years.
It would be a blessing for the Indian tennis if he takes up the coaching the young Indians in Tennis and help them to become the world leader in Tennis. This way it would also help all of us to remember and praise him even after his retirement, this time not for winning but for teaching others to be the winners
Not sure what he is having for himself after the retirement though
I always knew black paes will win mixed doubles... he is the fighter and at age 36yrs he is become more stubborn with determination. its sad he could not longer play singles after nearing 100 ranking in the atp singles ranking.
If the two legends of tennis doubles Leander and Mahesh agreed to play together, nobody knows how many All Indian Tennis Doubles Grand Slam titles would have come to India. I am sure, we would not have so many mixed doubles titles as there is only one Sania Mirza in India at present. But why is it that two greats of India Tennis Leander and Mahesh will not play together? In spite of so much talent and title prospects, if they don't play together, are they setting good precedence for the younger players?

John McCain said the same thing during the Presidential campaign in 2008 and he was railed as out of touch with reality.
What do we say of rediff? We are its unpaid proof readers.

maddu is right, there are now two countries, Czech Republic and Slovakia
Leander Paes, along with Sachin and V.Anand are true sports heroes, and worth emulating. Unfortunately, Paes and Anand have got very little recognition for their efforts, and it is high time we give them due recognition. Even the commentators at the Australian Open were surprised that he plays with such a high energy level and has excellent reflexes at his age (36). Considering that he was Junior Wimbledon champion in singles in 1990, he has been active for 2 decades! Not to mention his Davis Cup exploits, in singles and doubles, which is what takes him a couple of notches above Bhupathi. Hats off to the true Indian patriot - Leander Paes, the great warrior!

I second your thought to and feel he is the hero of modern india. Those who down play his game are naive. He is true spirited person and hats to him for bringing glory to the country.

Paes was the first individual olympic medal winner for India in Atlanta. He has inspired a whole generation.
You are a proud Indian and yet again you have proved it today and kept the Indian Tricolour highfly in international sports erena which is a rare phenomena these days
It is rather surprising that a person aged 36 years, is able to give so much to tennis. He is our Tennis Tendulkar and I wish that he carries on regardless of his age. All the best to him.

yes I too was surprised at his energy level; it is same as when he first started playing many years ago. He still zips around the court and smashes accurately. His fast play mainly confuses the opponents
