Federer beats Davydenko
by A Singh on Jan 27, 2010 09:34 PM  | Hide replies

The match could very well have been fixed.
After dominating for a set and a half, Davydenko simply switched off. Federer did not have to do anything special to stage his comeback. Davydenko again tried to show some spark in the fourth set, but it was too late.

@Sachin and Kareem
While I have hinted at a possibility, you guys have come up with affirmatives.
It seems you really have some inside information about major sports events getting fixed. I suggest you should turn your information over to CBI.
I reaffirm my point here. It was a case of Davydenko losing it rather than Federer winning it. Davydenko cannot explain what got into him in the fifth game of the second set. Federer did not do anything outstanding. Davydenko did.

Number1 spot unchanged

Federer has guaranteed his 268th week at the top of men's professional tennis.
Djokovic could rise to a career-high No. 2, if Andy Murray does not win his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne.

Rafael Nadal, who lost against Murray in the quarter-finals, will drop to No. 3 or No. 4 after the Australian Open with 7,670 points, dependent on the outcome of three potential scenarios.

1. If Murray wins the title, Djokovic would remain at No. 3 and Nadal would drop two places to No. 4.

2. If Murray loses in the semi-finals against Marin Cilic, he will have 7,320 points and will remain at No. 4. Djokovic would then rank No. 2 and Nadal at No. 3.

3. If Murray reaches the final, he will have 7,800 points and will rise one spot to No. 3. Djokovic would be at No. 2 and Nadal at No. 4.

Salute a legend...

One thing one must concede, whatever his form is, in other lesser tournamaents, where many a time he is beaten by lesser players, Grand Slam is one stage where he find a special gear. That is what separates the men from the boys. He has this ability to raise his game on those big occasions, not surprisingly he has won 15 grand slams. Surely an all time legend.

Its not special ablut slams its about best of 5, he gets enough time so that any one set upset doesn't affect him. Even today after losing the first set and down a break in the second he would have lost the match if it would have been best of 3 but since he still one more set to go it doesn't put much pressure on him. His record is now unimaginable by any opponent.

That's exactly why Rafa Nadal is special. He has made this great champion cry and has beaten him on every surface and holds a superior record against him, 3 or 5 setter. As my clone says'"Earning third set from him is too diffcult"-a feat Rafa has done umpteen times.I guess my clone's statement, which he has out in parenthesis, should be up there with the quotatiojs of great players and leaders as an all time classic.

hahah, Nadal is definitely good, but Fed is the greatest. The way he plays is simply amazing. I think Nadal is a gone case now. Nadal has defeated only once in straight sets in Grandslams, as I remember..

I wonder what level of tennis y've played during ur life. I've played nationals and I've kept track of tennis since '89, and in my humble opinion, there simply has been none better than Fed. Head-to-head record doesn't imply a person is better. Krajicek had a better head-to head with Sampras and so did Stich- so were they better players than Sampras? Bullshit!

Rafa didn't "make" him cry....a man who loves tennis so much sheds tears when he cannot do justice to his talent...simple as that...loser comment by the above person.

Wishful thinking. There are many players in the fray even now,who could upset him.Of course, with Rafa gone the challenge is less...maybe like last times French Open he can make tyhe most of Rafa's absence and win, but there are lots of potential ipset candidates like Murray,Djoker waiting in the wings.
