Rafa fan

I am a great fan of Nadal but I have to admit that it is Federer who is the one and only King where tennis is concerned. Rafa has stretched his physical capabilities to become #1 for a short time but has paid a heavy price and one hopes he has not damaged his knees too much. But the champion Federer has regained his title of world #1 and looks to maintain this status without punishing his body the way Nadal has done and this is what separates the two.

Spot on assesment. With Roger Federer it never looks like he is running around on the court hard. Amazing footwork infact sometimes you don't even notice the guy as to how hard he is working too.

Friends, that's where the class matter the most! Nadal's game is power game and he can be dominant until he has the power (off course physical power) but Feddo's game is classic completely classical. His consistency is just unbelievable. Since the last six years he has played almost in every grand slam finals. Hats off to this player! I wish him all the best and hope he wins this title too!

FITNESS!!!

Nadal has never been a natural player in any surface!!
His strength has always been RAW/BRUTAL/POWER packed tennis for which he has to SLOG!!
The end result is that at 23 he is facing the RECURRENT INJURIES that has put his profession under threat!!!

Nadal beaten in quaters
by Guest on Jan 26, 2010 08:37 PM

Just as I had said... Nadal has met the dead-end in the quaterfinals with Murray as the opponent. Now he might become #3 or #4 in the ranking, since he couldn't defend his aussie title. He stands to lose 1640 points. He hasnt beaten a top 10 player since last year's french open.

Those were the days when Federer was no. 1 and Nadal was no. 2.
Nadal would dominate on Clay, and Federer; on all other surfaces.
Nadal started feeling that with a little extra effort, he could topple Federer off the Top.
He decided to take the bait. Inch by inch he closed the gap with Federer, and ultimately, he did topple him. Nature too, decided to help Nadal by giving Federer an attck of Mono fever to Federer late in 2007. Last year's Final at Melboturne epitomised this story.
Then Nadal became too greedy. The biggest mistake of his life (he may not agree) was to participate in the Madrid Masters last year, despite the injury. He paid by losing in Madrid and in Paris.
Federer is a natural, and a born athlete. To match his talent by sheer hard work required Nadal to work beyond the limit his muscles would impose on him. He went on and on, and finally, his knees snapped.
This looked like the end of the story, but Nadal will always be talked about the man who dethroned Federer, and of course he has a superior Head to Head record.

You may have jumped the gun too early.....may be he will return to his favorite surface after 3 months of rest where he has won all his life and which is like home to him and may be he will rule there again, giving him the confidence that he could return to his best. I know there is a big may be here, but his main problem is fitness and he inability to break opposite players even after creating so many chances. All this is related to not being able to beat top 5-6 players in the last 3-4 months...But you know after 3 months or so, when the clay court season starts, all this may change very quickly...and they sure will...because knowing rafa, he is a champion and of the highest quality and he will be gunning to reclaim his french open, depending on fitness offcourse. At the same time, 3 months is a long period....

Greatness in sports is not merely about winning, but also preserving your body for longevity in the chosen game. Nadal simply failed to do it. Federer preserved his body and ensured that he peaked during the Slams and the results are there for everyone to see. Nadal chose the path of winning everything before him come what may, throwing caution to wind. Thus, while a great champion like Federer has just 60 odd titles (including 15 Slams)over a long period, Nadal has nearly 40 titles in double quick time, 75% of them on Clay. It is this obsession with clay that has cost Nadal dearly. He won. Everyone enjoyed him when the going was good, more so as finally there was someone to defeat Federer. May be the game of Tennis won, but Nadal has lost. He is just 23 and his injury seems to be quite serious. Perhaps he never will be the same again. Meanwhile, Federer, in spite of advancing years, is doing pretty well in Majors even now and on a given day if his opponent is below his best Federer will take advantage and will continue to win. Federer has entered his 23 consecutive semi-finals in a Slam by defeating Davydenko a few minutes back in 4 sets. Well, you need something extra to beat Federer in a Slam!

Here is head to head record:
Nadal-13 win, Federer-7wins
On Clay : Nadal-9, Fed-2
On Hard : Nadal-3, Fed-3
On Grass: Nadal-1, Fed-2
They are equally matched on other courts, Nadal is master of clay & hence hold upper hand. And Nadal hardly managed to reach SF/Finals on other courts, so they have less number of matches played on other surface. The suprior Head to Head record is purely because of less encouters on other surface. Nadal dethroned Federer, but had to surrender it back to the master within an year.
