Only in India you can get away with saying your "aim" to finish in top 8th. While in rest of the world everyone shoots to be the best i.e being #1. I dont really blame the coach Rajpal Singh. To win and be # 1 takes 1) A good leader. 2) Team spirit. 3) Good support from country and sponsors 4) Ofcouse skills.
Hockey is the national sport in India which is weird since we are a nation obsessed with Cricket.

No, he is only in the movie. He is not a hockey enthusiast, just played a role. Actually he is a great lover of cricket where he puts a lot of money.

I heard Sharuk's grandma can play some Hockey. So if you request for her to be in the Team, she will bring World Cup to India.
We except some good performance from Hockey players. Tell them not to play in their own half. 1.Penetrate like Mohammed Shahid. 2.Move Like Jude Felix. 3.Pass Like Mervin Fernandes. 4.Defend Like to Pargat Singh. I forget one name who met with accident. He was good player in recent times.

Yes, he was an ace penalty corner specialist. Very talented. The unfortunately accident killed his hockey career.
I remember when India won Asia cup in 2003 under the captaincy of Dhanraj Pillai, the whole team rushed with the cup to Jalandhar to show him. Jugraj was all set to play in Asia cup and this accident happened.
Feels nice to see a coach who doesnt promise stars and moons. Its quite realistic to say we are 12th and a top 8 finishing would be good. Everyone wants this team to do good. Goodluck !!

its looks very disgusting just 20 fields all over india when compared to holland ???
thats why 12 place to once 1 place. other reason is money(give it for god performance)just shabby nuts for our players so wher's motivation it will lead to -ve vibes & losses.

The difference between hockey and cricket is that Cricket is driven by corporates to push their products. Till 1991 cricket was not a money making game. Players used to have many compalins regarding payments and BCCI was helpless. Being a privately managed popular game, companies like Pepsi, Coke etc pumped money to push their product to masses.
Other games like hockey have been hostage of Govt due to so many restrictions and mismanagement. Even today hockey is set open, the corporates will make this spectatcular game a strong tool for advertising. But hockey will have to come out of Govt control then.

Remember that from a company perspective, sponsorship cames from advertisement budget not from charity budget. Sponsors will be interested only if Indian hockey makes front page news/ gets telecaseted live on prime hours etc and that will come once Indian hockey team keeps winning consistently. In present scenario, where hockey news (other than scams/protests) make it to 4th page of sports section and hockey matches are telecast in crappy channels like DD Sports, big sponsorship deals would remain a dream for Indian hockey

There were several wins by hockey team last year. They are also Asia cup champion. They 2 tournaments last year and were runners up in two others against team like Australia and Holland. The news channels did give good coverage and most of the matches were shown live on Ten Sports/Star Sports.
But the problem is adminsitrators who are Govt babus. They are not allowing hockey to release its wings and supported by corporates. The media and corporates are waiting for hockey to be liberated becasue they are finding cricketers and film stars too expensive to endorse their products. They want it to be a closed affair so that they eat up Govt fund. Othewise Dhanraj, Rasquinha, Deepak Thakur, Gagan Ajeet Singh, Ignace Tirkey, Arjun Halappa would had become role models for the young generation.
This is the right time for hockey to get rid of retired Bureaucrats and get corporatized.
