Hats off to Sahara Pariwar for their grand timely gesture !!
by Globalcrusador on Jan 13, 2010 04:44 PM

The mess in Indian Hockey was there for far too long with lousy leadership with heaps of politics in it. It was bound to explode some- time or the other and I am glad it has finally exploded for the clean up to start. The solution is to replace the entire management team and substitute it with a professional one comprising of senior players who have played for India earlier. There is a total disconnect between the present management team and the players right now-the basic trust itself does not seem to exist.
Sahara's grand gesture is a slap in the face of the Government & the Indian Hockey Federation.

The issue so burning that this time it has to reach to players.

This is the time when Hockey India should be privatized and made a profit making organization like BCCI.

Hand HI over to

Many people shout from their roof tops at their highest pitch criticising the undue importance given to cricket and the neglect of other sports and games.

Indian cricketers used to play well only in patches and had the advantage of spin bowling on spinning wickets at home, till the late 70's and early 80's. However, pace bowlers and good batsmen who could tackle pace emerged later to raise the expectation levels of fans and more wins both at home and abroad from early 80's. All this became possible not just due to the arrival of new players but also due to efforts put in by the BCCI. It is only recently, say in the last decade, that BCCI has become cash rich, thanks to marketing and sponsorship.

However, precious little has been done by the administrators in other sports. For example, how many good hockey stadia do we have with astro-turf? What is the financial perks and travel expenses incurred by the President of HI and its officials and what is the amount paid to the players?

Instead of finding fault with the players and behaving in a dictatorial manner by giving ultimatum to the players, the administrators should resign en-block and leave the management of the game in the hands of some one like Jagmohan Dalmia or Lalit Modi. The sports minister or others should give such an administrator a free hand.

One is sure to find HI flying sky high within 3-5 years then. It is all about interest in sports and dedication to work.

Just how many World Class criket stadia does India have. Apart from Mohali none other comes to mind. And we are the richest cricket board in the world. U cant compare any of r grounds to the grounds in England, Australia, SA, NZ. U can imagine what then wud be the state of hockey.

IHF Change the administrators

Its high time that the sports minister takes note of all this, it's no us holding a portfolio as such and seeing the sad state of our brilliant hockey players fighting for their right's. The world cup is round the corner and instead of practicing and putting our best foot forward to regain our lost glory the players are engaged to fight for their cause. I am sure that this is the best time that they could do this other wise no one would even look into they cause. finish this as soon as possible and in the same spirit fight each game and bring back laurels to our country.

Sports minister has taken note of this. His statement was aired on TV channels yesterday. Here it is - "The players must call off their strike unconditionally and resume the camp and play whole heartedly in the World. I will see and try to resolve into their grievances."

Who the fool on this earth will believe in this politicians.
