Need new law for supporting sports
by Ninja Kirgi on Jan 12, 2010 06:00 PM  | Hide replies

I think a new law needs to be introduced in for the betterment of sports in country.

Let all newpapers/magazines be made to pay Rs1000/- for ever character printed for cricket related news to a sports fund.

Similarly all news channels should be made to pay Rs1000/- for every second of cricket related news shown on news channels. Actual broadcasters could be spared of this levy.

With the kind of print space and airtime devoted to cricket, a huge amount of money could be collected which can be used for betterment of other sports as well as Ranji cricketers.

Who is blaming cricket.
I am just suggesting a new way to use cricket to finance other sports.
Hasn't govt earlier used similar strategies to finance education and build highways when they introduced Education Surcharge on Income Tax and Surcharge on Petrol for highway development.
Nobody complained to that.

Can Shahrukh Khan, who made hundreds of crores from a film on hockey and spent over 400 Crore on IPL, personally donate 1 Crore to Indian hockey team.

If Hockey India does not accept the plea of hockey players, better they stop playing for India and join Dutch or German league.

Shahrukh Khan, veru close to S0nia Gandhi and the sports minister, is trying to exceed his limits. Hockey players are not his personal servants like the models he used for his movie.

What kind of rubbish Mattoo is talking?
by pradeep agarwal on Jan 12, 2010 05:53 PM

he should be immediately taken out of discussions & a sensible person should resolve the genuine demand of players.Players are right in putting demands ahead of WC or these officials will siphon the entire amount once the tourney is over,Minister should issue threat to the body to reoslve than allow them to corace the players.

Why officials do not pay to players?
by Nitin Rajurkar on Jan 12, 2010 05:48 PM  | Hide replies

The officials responsible for this mess should be kicked. Players are right and their demand is legitimate. Officials are corrupt and treat players like dirt.

We all support the players. Sack the Hockey India officials.

for all those criticizing the HI players
by Indian on Jan 12, 2010 05:48 PM  | Hide replies

when was the last time you saw or followed a hockey match? compare that with when was last time you saw or followed a hockey match. Their grievances are genuine. It is not just the apathy of government, but also the Media and the ppl that the sport is in such a state.
Unlike cricket, hockey is not self sustaining, meaning there is not enough revenue generated by hockey to sustain itself. If you are saying that the players are not doing well, then you are one of them responsible for it in the first place.

As usual, the money alloted to the sports never reaches the ppl who need it, due to corruption.

Through the contract they are asking for 4.7 L per player, which is not much according to today's standard. They should be given the due respect, financial support and moral support that has been denied to them for the last few decades.

No Pradip, It was Govt failure to provide the facilities to the team with growing changes in technology. In 1978, the Govt had demoralized India team before sending to Bunos Aires and the World champions lost. In 1976 Olympics, the games were played on Polygrass and Indian team had never played on this surface. Contrary to this Holland, Germany, NZ, Australia had practised on this surface.

Only in 1982 India got its first Astro Turf, but by that time it was too late.

Even when Indian hockey team was world champion and Olympic champion, players were made to travel in second class in trains, while their cricket counterparts who used to lose 3-0 or 5-0 used to fly ot travel in a/c class. Ex CM of MP is right in saying that while Cricket players in the country earns crores in a year, hockey players earn a salary to buy only peanuts.

The difference between Cricket and hockey is the former is an entertainment, while the latter is a sport. And Indian public like only two things - Movies and Cricket, both entertainments.

Nowhere in the world, a country has neglected/insulted its National Game, the way India has done it.

Let the players prove themselves ... and then ask for money
by Pradip Rabindranath on Jan 12, 2010 05:48 PM  | Hide replies

I think the players should prove themeselves if they want money. Otherwise let them go! We will either live with anybody who wants to play for India or not play this game at all. Anways the results are not going to be great whoever plays.

Hockey has brought enough disgace to the country and it is time they all hang up their boots and we as the audience not be sentimental about it!

Best regards,

Pradip

Officials have created this mess and not players. Hence officials must be punished. This team had played far better and put their hearts in recent matches and won some.

HI should py the money immediately
by akshaya Kumar Mishra on Jan 12, 2010 05:45 PM  | Hide replies

It right that playing for the country is important but the most important part is that the players should get their dues. Hockey India should solve this matter immediately. They simply can not say that they do not have the money. The hockey players deserve a better treatment.
