saina deserves the attention she gets. overhyped is more suited for sania, and our cricketers like dhoni and the rest.
Just one request: Start a countrywide martial arts training institute. Reasons:
All girls need to be fit and able to defend themselves.
Non-violence does not mean weakness and inability.
Boxing is not going to encourage parents to send daughters to train for their safety, karate/judo will.
Women must stop considering themselves as objects of delicate beauty to be admired, rather as humans who know all the tricks but do not indulge in violence.
I remember clearly an incident in my childhood where my group of friends was being bullied by elder boys.
One of them was particularly abusive and cunning. He used to corner us when we were alone and bash us.
Enter my friend's elder sister - she knew karate well. She came at the right time, and in front of the whole building gave him a nice treatment.
The fellow was so traumatised being bashed up by a girl of his age, he stopped troubling us and in fact went away to return only after some months.
Girls can fight damn well if they are taught to. Even the most delicate looking ones.
Moral of story: Girls should and can use martial arts to demonstrate their seriousness when it comes to their own safety. They ca even defend others if well trained in karate / judo / martial arts.

Hello Dev,
Don't you think your comment is so absurd. Its something like asking Sachin to open a football academy !!!!! When she says she is born to do boxing, thats what she should do and teach as well.
Why don't YOU open a academy for Karate and Kunfu for girls in India instead ?????

but if she is convinced enough of the cause, she can use her contacts to arrange the same with top level people in the sport and with all her backers also putting money into it.
Do you think I can teach better than her contacts - highly trained masters?
Also, Rediff carried an article today about how all of India's non-cricketing sportspersons are joining together to start an group for getting Olympic Golds.
If they read this, they will give it a serious thought.
Rest assured that I know fully well: 1. I dont expect anybody among them to really read our comments. 2. I do expect that someone who reads and knows them might raise the topic with them. 3. While they may have their independent plans, it does not hurt for the public to put out a useful suggestion or point of view. 4. Unfortunately, it is true that I cannot proudly proclaim even one topic that because of my writing alone something great happened in India or the world.
But then what world-changing work do most of us do? Most just eat, sleep, enjoy, sulk, do a job, and reproduce. What's their use to the world? To the country? What lasting change is brought by them?
In many of my comments, I have got replies saying that my points of view have helped some people. That is a useful thing.
If 5 people benefit, then that is good, is it not?
its a shame that we dont give NE achievers their due.or enough respect to the region itself for that matter.. cricketers dont even truly represent the country in any event other than world cup.. yet make so much.. mary kom n others win many international events on with much more competition many times a yr yet most people may not recognise her yet
