by Black Kobra on Aug 28, 2010 01:44 PM

Shohaib Malik can fix for loosing only like Pakistani cricketers do. So she can't win. Shohaib can't fix win for her.

Towards improving her back-hand, Saina sould study Taufik Hidayat's back-hand & incorporate it as much as possible. It is simply incredible. It will make Saina a much better & complete player. I am not for a moment trying to take away any credit from Saina. I am extremely proud of her acievements & wish her continued success in the future.

In 1980 Prakash Padukone, after becoming world no.1 by winning the all-england championships, lost to misbun sidek of malaysia in the qtr.finals. so history has repeated itself.
but, don't worry saina u will bring more glory to india in future.all the best!

Saina goes down tamely in quarter-finals

Rankings can be very mis-leading from the very fact that Saina had never met Shixian Wang before & Saina is supposed to be world no 2 & Shixian world no 6. Is this possible in any other sport. If you look at Saina's head-to-head record against the other top 10 ranked players the picture will be very clear. She has a poor record against most of them. Saina apart from being sluggish in her movements also has a very poor back-hand. It is almost non-existent. It is this very weakness requiring her to cover her extreme back-hand with her fore-hand which is making her vulnerable to drop-shots on her fore-hand. This also make her movement on the court very sluggish. This weakness was beautifully exploited by Shixin. Saina was also very tentative & tried to move her opponent around the court instead of trying to finish the rallies. This would have probably worked against older opponents going down-hill in their career as has been the case with most past opponents whom Saina has beaten & gone up the rankings. However this ploy back-fired against Shixin as she gave her back in the same coin doing better at it than Saina. This 20 year old sixth seeded Shixin is far better than Saina & she simply destroyed Saina on that day. I am not taking away any credit from Saina & she may indeed achieve the no one ranking. But she will always continue to lose tosuch future Shixins if she does not improve her back-hand drastica

U must understand that Top ranked player in the Men's section like Lan Din and Sook also lost to lesser ranked players. Does that mean that they are over hyped players just for the sake of it?

Lan Din from CHINA is hailed as the greatest men's badminton player of all times, he lost...now what will you say...that he is a over hyped player, is it???

Unlike Cricket where there are only 8 ranking teams in other sports the no. of players is huge and it is common fact that you can meet some unknown player in every tournament.

Saina is looking for coach and going by his reviews, Sharad can apply.

Perhaps Sharad can also compete in the championships and prove his worth.

As usual, too much off the field activities to blame!
by sandeep kumar on Aug 28, 2010 09:40 AM  | Hide replies

Sania was going great guns till 2008, when she was no 27, and then injuries and off the field appearances for page3 events, sponsors and now marriage and she is 160 now. Saina following the same route. Ramp walks, endorsements, appearances at premiers etc. When will these youngsters learn that it is sports that gave them fame, and not ad shoots? Leave the ads and endorsements to actors.Sportsmen should concentrate on sports.Unless you are an established star like sachin, dhoni etc.

Dont be over critical. She cant win all the time. She is playing with the best of the best and she is bound to lose some time. She reached the quarter finals in the world championship, which is no less achievement.

Agreed, she dd well, except that luck was not on her side that particular match which she lost to the Chinese. Know that even two top seeds of Men's, Lan Din of China and Sook of Malaysia also lost and made their exit from the tournament.

Let us not be harsh on Saina and instead encourage to do better next time and bring more laurels to the nation
