Unless the HRD person behind this episod is given some sort of punishment, say atleast a transfer, Kapil Sibel can be observed as a culprit. I certainly belive this is done either by some reservation fellow or some body fustated with his job.

Hey Mathew, what is wrong in finding that a person is Indian or not. Anand stays in Spain and it is govt.'s right to ask Indian citizen to find out the status because Indian govt. does not know that there is a change in status or not. This issue is blown out of proportion by we fool Indians. Govt. has done it totally right. It's India's culture to give celebrity undue and illegal advantages. Every person is same according to law and the govt. is correct.

Anand himself faxed his passport 8 months ago to HRD ministry. Those jokers slept over it as usual.
That is what happened.
LOL, HRD minister in India gets involved with checking citizenship before a university in INdia awards an honorary degree! LOL. He should be focussinng on building schools in villages instead of such nonsense.
Universities world over routinely award honorary degrees including to non citizens. What is HRD minister getting involved in such things for?

Look, 1.Aruna Anand had already send a copy of his passport 2. Anand is already a winner of Padmabhushan 3. Anand is the first winner of Rajiv Gandhi Khel ratna award. tendulkar and Leander Paes Follow. 4.Every time we can see Indian flag to his side while he is playing. This was quiet evident in the recent world championship 5. Even if he holds a Spanish passport, Spain is a country for which dual citizenship is permitted. 6. If Anand's nationality is questioned on Anand's residence at Spain, normally that that person should be a follower of chess/Anand and he should be aware of more things. Like, Anand,s name is registered under India in the FIDE site. They have very strict rules for it. Check the status change of Sergey Karjakin an Ukranian now representing Russia. I stand to my words.

The only one point I would like to add is that Anand does NOT hold a Spanish passport. Even if Spain has dual citizenship laws, India does not.
That is a moot point, because India has awarded Bharat Ratna to foreigners. Besides, as you pointed out Anand had faxed his passport to HRD ministry 8 months ago, and those babus slept over it as usual.

Had he been a Muslim like Sania all reputed national idiots, from Mayawathi, Commies, Paswan, Laloo to Mulayam would've forced Kapil to resign.
Had Anand been an OBC or SC/ST or a Dalit Christian from TN..his lower and oppressed castemen Karunanidhi and Ramdoss would've even pulled the support out in the central government.

MOst people will think I am being neurotic, but closely analyze his actions and words pertaining to south indian students/schools/syllabus and it becomes evident that he does carry an anti-south grouse. Firstly, being a lawyer, I expect him to know that HIndi is NOt the national language (even though there is this huge myth in the north that it is. Constitution only calls HIndi, English and all other regional languages, official languages of INdia.
Next, what stupid logic is Sibal using ....that after South Indians are forced to learn Hindi, India will become a net exporter of knowledge! His argument was that since computers and technology is taught in English, and South Indian students are doing well in these discipline, once South Indians follow Hindi like Biharis and UPites, then the world will start using Hindi instead of English in technology...LOL
And then we will export our Hindi technology to China, America, Germany, Australia. LOL!!

Switzerland,Germany,Austria are german speaking states with german ethic people living so it doesn't really matter where Schumacher lives and there is no proof that Germans hate him,they are the most open minded individuals I've ever talked to.In the end it only comes down to bureaucracy. Money doesn't make a man above the rest of us he should still obey the laws and the Indian govt.is right in clearing their doubts.

Ya according to the Law, he has an Indian Passport and so is an Indian citizen unless he acquires citizenship of another country. And Anand did not acquire the citizenship of any other country.

LOL..honorary degrees are awarded to foreginers by INdian and global universities. NO big deal.
Bharat RAtna has been awarded to foreginers. LOL.

Lastly, Anand faxed his passport to HRD ministry EIGHT MONTHS ago! they slept over it, but forgot to give clearance to the University...and when Anand was invited HRD minister went running with file in hand, but the award ceremony was over!
For the same ceremony an American Mathematician was invited, and HRD ministry had no problems with his citizenship! LOL...

This is a Fool-proof OR Full-proof on how our Government of India functions !!! When we say 'Government' it always refers to the Officials and Politicians. Viswanathan Anandh has been in the international map for the past 20 years and yet our own indian officials still don't know his nationality. This is a very good example on how our Government officials work and how much knowledge they have in doing their job. Still should they need to ask for his identification proof? If so, what are those officials in his home town doing? what are those officials in the airports of Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore & New Delhi doing? Does this mean, our Airport officials don't record the data of those passengers leaving to abroad? If only that official could contact any of these 4 airports, then, he/she could have got the passport details of V.Anandh within a hour bcoz all the computers are interlinked. Thanks to the media, from time to time, media brings out the "Fool-proof" or "Full-proof" of the stupidity/negligence/in-efficiency of our Government officials. Hats Off your Governemnt official guys, there is NO wonder on why/how many terrorist can easily enter into our country!!!!! Long Live India with these idiotic government officials !!!!

Sir, if read carefully...Anand's wife already sent passport copies to concerned so called officials.you dont have to check airport records...If I am Kapil sibal, I wud 100 percent sacked the ashole and his boss who raised this matter
