Alongwith dear Anand, there was one American to receive this Dr degree and there was no problem with him.... why only with Anand.. even if Anand was not an indian, he cud still receive the Degree when an American can.... Why the Govt of the Day chooses to humiliate Indian Representatives and living legends...? Kapil Sibal shud resign and go in shame...
If Vishy was born an OBC, the Congress and DMK would have glorifed him and made him a household symbol of success. But then unfortunately for him he was born to a Brahmin couple.
Were he born a Vanniyar couple, the PMK would have by now held protest rallies all over TamilNadu burning Sibal's effigies and advocated the cause of "Social Justice" and decried the insult meted out to another fellow Vanniyar. Ramadoss Sr and Jr would have written to the PM condemning the HRD ministry for "thereby insulting the crores of OBCs".
But then as Vishy is neither a Vanniyar nor an OBC nor a Dalit nor a Muslim he finds no support in either the nationalist Congress or the DMK or PMK of the state he hails from.
Sorry Anand, hardluck for you!!! Caste is everything in this caste-based country.
Brahmins are the real victims and marginalized people in this caste-based India. This incident would definitely have not happened if you were an OBC. And even if it did happen, all political parties would have decried the insult in full-force and in the Parliament too. Don't feel surprised that no hue and cry is being made over in the political circles against your insult!!!

Caste continues to exist in India because it is convenient for the ruling classes to use it as and when required to divide and marginalize people. Of course, some castes will be perceived as doing well and better than the others. However, in the long run, this divisiveness doesn't allow anyone to progress.
The point is, caste politics aside, is anyone willing to accept the Indian constitution's statement that every Indian is equal, irrespective of caste or creed. I don't think that is happening at the ground level.

very rarely I will 100% agree in this forum. And I agree with you 100% on this.
While with his gentlemanly good manners and decent behaviour Vishwanathan has proved of his real indianness ; Kapil Sibal & HRD with their antics have time and again put the nation to shame! Seems Kapil wanted to extract hefty bribe(on the pretext of donations for party) for Doctorate being awarded to Anand!
It is absurd to know our HRD under the great Kapil has raised doubt on Aanad's Nationality- I learnt that Kapil is educated in US and if he can be a minsiter and an Indian - how could Anand be not an Indian-

If this is the view of North Indian, then South will disintegrate- whether this is acceptable to Kapil Sibal
