Good Performance

To win a medal in the olympics at any level is a very commendable achievement. Comparisons with China are inevitable, but even the strongest sporting giants in the world have been losing ground to them.

India has performed well in the previous beijing olympics and these youth olympics. It is heartening to see indian sports-people not giving up and losing out on technicalities or after a very hard fought match.

Yuki Bhambri had a very good chance to win the gold, but had to retire due to injury after tying at 1 set each. This is unfortunate but means that Indian sports has started maturing, and we will see more and more sports-people coming up to the best levels of sport. It is only a matter of time now.

In the Beijing Summer Olympics 2008, China had bagged a total of 100 medals including 51 gold medals, the maximum, & USA followed with 36 gold.At that time it was perceived that due to home advantage, the Chinese had done so well. But here again at the World Youth Olympics 2010 being held now at Singapore, once again China is leading the medals table with 42 including 24 gold.It means that China really is a sports superpower. India again has not yet bagged a gold & has only 5 medals, lying at the bottom of the medals table. We seem to be licked by the Chinese in every field whether it is per capita income, infrastructure building, gdp, sports, industrial production etc. It is high time that our media stops comparing India with China at every oppurtunity, the latter has gone too ahead for us.
