I want it to be a success... we cannot always remain like 'we are poor' thinking.. It is a big step and so is costly... India will need much more than this...It is destiny calling for India...Mani Shankar Aiyar murdabaad

How about conducting an Olympics for Corruption ?
by veekay on Aug 12, 2010 06:06 PM

I think India with Kalmadi and Dixit should bid for conducting the Olympics for Corruptions - India sure to win all the gold medals in that category ! Categories like Scam race , Lootmaar , steal taxpayer's money and many such contests should be introduced.

National 'pride'
by amar bharat on Aug 12, 2010 05:44 PM  | Hide replies

organising Olympic is not national pride. national pride will actually come if we could give food, education, shelter, medicine and employment for a healthy livelihood to all of our citizens......o/w organising all those rubbish (like CWG) is just f**king...

What do we do national pride when our roads are full of flood just bz of few monsson showers. when we have so many illiterate people and theri malnutritioned chilren along the road side in each and every city, town and village.
What else should I say about the proud performance of our atheles in these games. We are not even sure of a single medal when our teams go to olympics.
These concept of 'National pride by organising games' belongs to developed nations or at least performers in the games. What do we want to do while organising olympics? People around the world and first will mock at our filthry backyards and then pull down nickers of our best atheles.

Why not INDIA GAMES
by Ramadas on Aug 12, 2010 02:07 PM  | Hide replies

India being of sub-continent size why not an INDIA GAMES for which every state in India can bid to stage. Stage the games on international standards like the CWG, Asian Games and Olympics and have it biannually.

Let us be kind towards our leaders
by Gireesh Kumar on Aug 12, 2010 02:05 PM

Let us be kind towards our leaders. Do not burden them with Olympics. Rather than bringing Olympics here, we should allocate some crores for it and distribute it evenly among Kalmadi and his ilks!

Historically we were leaders in sports, now left far behind..
by om shanti on Aug 12, 2010 02:05 PM  | Hide replies

The first Asian games were held at New Delhi in 1951, which again hosted it in 1982.
After World War II, a number of Asian countries became independent. Many of the new independent Asian countries wanted to use a new type of competition where Asian dominance should not be shown by violence and should be strengthened by mutual understanding. In August 1948, during the 14th Olympic Games in London, Indian IOC representative Guru Dutt Sondhi proposed to sports leaders of the Asian teams the idea of having discussions about holding the Asian Games. They agreed to form the Asian Athletic Federation. A preparatory committee was set up to draft the charter for the Asian amateur athletic federation. In February, 1949, the Asian athletic federation was formally formed and used the name Asian Games Federation. It was decided to hold the first Asian Games in 1951 in New Delhi, the capital of India in which Maharajadhiraj Yadavindra Singh, Maharaja of Patiala played an important role. They added that the Asian Games would be regularly held once every four years...
Now our CWG preparation is marred with corruption, where as China successfully conducted the Olympics and now preparing for Asian games to build a strong image of the country globally..we should be ashamed of ourselves for playing with our national pride for individual greed..

For Heaven sake "NO "
by mahesh on Aug 12, 2010 02:04 PM

Don't even dream of bidding for the Olympics !We don't deserve even the remotest thought with the way we conduct ourselves. We are an international shame. It is a big big shame that such an eminent 9 so caled now) personality like our PM has not even opened his mouth even after so much dirt has come out.Personally, I have lost all respect for him with the way he covers up all corruption cases.Truly, he is now an astute politician who has learnt the rules of the games. To me, at the end of his term ( which should be very near ) he will go in history books as the "worst and weakest PM".hE IS A SHAME TO THE sARDARS who have always stood by the nation. But this guy has compromised everything.God--please give our PM some "SADBUDDHI" to listen to the voice of his conscience rather than listening to the diktats of the Italian lady and remaining passive ! For heaven sake, please do not warm the seat of the PM for the stupid Rahul.Rise to the occasion and take actions to s-c-r-e-w THE CORRUPT ministers--even if it means---sacrificing the govt and ofcourse your own chair which has become so dear to you !
