delhi vs guangzhou
by biswanath roy on Aug 05, 2010 02:09 PM

delhi is hosting the commonwealth games from Oct 3,2010, whereas the chinese city of guangzhou, will be hosting the asiad games 2010, a month later. as per reports flashed on internet guangzhou's stadiums are all complete & have been handed today to the chinese asiad authorities for installing security equipments & final checking. as per knowledge guangzhou has never held an international sports event earlier,& had to build all the needed stadiums fresh. the asiads has 42 events, whereas the commonwealth games hosts only 17 events. moreover delhi had hosted the asiad in 1982, & most of the stadiums like jawahar lal nehru, talkatora, indira gandhi, dhyan chand, r.k.khanna (tennis)etc had been built in 1982, & only needed renovation, installing modern equipments, resurfacing & sprucing up etc. only a few stadiums & games village had to be newly constructed, but even then an amount of over Rs 12,000 crores has been incurred, whereas in guangzhou where all stadiums had to be built new, an expenditure of around RMB 12500 million( Rs 8750 crores) has been incurred. this only indicates the huge loot that has taken place at the delhi games.
