saina deserves khel ratna by her own right. there should not be any cribbing on that. if any cribbs for awards, that itself shows the character of selfish and egoistic nature. every one in India can not buy and practice the guns as mr. gagan. but millions can afford to buy a shuttle badmigton racquet. It shows the range of participation. how many participated in shooting in India? cribbing by mr Gagan is unfortunate. his life will change if he could get a gfold from London. you write very good article. But, please read complete story, he is waiting for this since last 3 years. And, this is the frustration of a player, who like to get recognised, I think, even you would have come to know about him so much after readinf this rediff article or TOI article. So, just think according to his mind.
Yes Gagan, it's all about public & media perception, otherwise how can one explain choice of our present cricket captain (one of the most selfish and narrow minded cricketer who doesn't care much about country's win/loss)a couple of years ago. About Saina..it is so much heartening to see an Indian sports person aspiring for excellence.I feel it's slightly premature to give her the award.She might be burdened by expectations.

Hello please think before you say something. If you talk about public and media perception, then there are many who are more popular than Saina. And if Khel Ratna gives Saina more burden of expectation then same can happen with Gagan also. Regarding Dhoni, I don't know whether he is narrow minded or selfish, but remember he was ICC's ODI player of that year and and during his time India's success rate is very good. May be his cool nature make you think he does not care about country's win/loss. BTW when person like P.T.Usha heads this committee, then you cannot complain.
Gagan's complaining proved he is one of the most selfish and narrow minded.
People like Narang are doing this only to get awards.... tell me did Champions like Vishi Anand, Sachin, Paes or Saina ever asks for awards..... in shooting first show something in olympics and than ask for the awards... otherwise in shooting every month I hear of world cups............

Narang's attitude is typical of most Indian athletes. They want the country's highest honour for mediocre performance. They talk much, but perform little. He should talk after winning a few Gold Medals but not after a bronze, copper or tin medals (I know the last two don't exist, but in Narang's case they should).

Is it so. By that logic, none of Indian cricketers including Sachin should get this award as India has not won the one day world cup for really a long time. The problem is that all other sports gets attention during Olympics and we want them to win their only. And for 4 years, who cares what they are doing

You're absolutely right. All the Indian cricketers are utterly useless and should not be honoured at all. The stupid media worships these useless people who can't even win the World Cup.

Well said.. By complaining Gagan proved he desires more about award than the sport. Even other greats like Mahesh Bhupati and many gr8cricketers did not get this honor. But they never complained. Gagan must take a leaf out of their books.
Also he must know that everyone cannot win award in same year.
Same happened in Film awards also. Actors like Dilip Kumar, Sivaji Ganeshan never won while many like Mithun Chakraborty won several times. However Dilip Kumar never complained about this.
