Children from poor African nations know that sport is the only way to earn a living there. So they do their best to excel in it because it is their only chance to earn good money. In India, everybody know that apart from cricketer, all sportsmen may starve to death. So who wants to choose such a career option? Give good money to players and watch how soon our people become sporting.
1. Stop wasting your money on IPL. 2. Put 50% of money generated from BCCI to develope football. 3. Develope a very goood domestic League system. 4. A good scouting system to identify RAW talents. 5. Some of the best talents are in North-East where some of the porrest states of India are. 6. See the culture of the Manipuris.. one of the most sportive people of INDIA

North East produces best talent in all form of sports (not only football). And guess what, even with so much apathy, they constantly produce some of the best players.

You are ignorant. There was a time when India was one of the world champions. In 1964 Olympics India stood 4th in th world & just missed the bronze in football. During that period India reached many semi finals i football world cup also.

you are wrong india never played in world cup.india is the first asian country who reached semi of olympics football.india failed against argentina on 1984 nehru trophy only by 1 goal.i think that is the biggest acheivement.that team got 1986 world cup!!!
i went to to wizards game last saturday vs LA galaxy ..didn't get to see chettri.. though saw donovan in action.. was a gr8 game.. though ended in a draw.. kc wizards had many close calls
congrats ,you reached up to this level, good. but we have miles to go...we want to beat austrlaia by the same score as we done in 1956. we want to reach atleast semifinal of asia cup..
I dont think it's the infrastructure. Cameroon, Nigeria and other poorer countries than India have produced fantastic soccer players. I think it's mainly the mindset. The middle class section of India needs security. They dont let their kids take chances or risks in life. They need their kids to be engineers or to have a stable 9 to 5 job. Even if the kids have talent, they are not encouraged enough to take up sport as profession.

dude being sorry isn't the solution ...building a strong culture like cricket is the solution....football is a lot less expensive to start with and can help build communities , can make the youth more sociable and deter the fringes from getting into crime. A land of huge population doesn't have a quality world 11 is what is shameful. As Chetri rightly pointed out the real problem is -- lack of right nourishment at the right age.... If you see under -16 and under -17 performances by Indian clubs who get to play foreign clubs from europe , west asia and US they actually go and beat them ; the performance graph from that age starts to dip and by under 21 and senior level all just vanish . 16-21 is an athletes most crucial growth period physically and skillfully , that is where all the infrastructure , coaching , nutrition , strength training makes a huge difference when it comes to senior level.
