Show the Chess championship
by Gautam Kaulgud on Apr 29, 2010 03:44 PM  | Hide replies

Vishy, as he is known amongs his fans, lives in Spain. He is a resident there, but holds Indian passport.

A few days back, we read an article on how difficult it was for Anand to reach the venue for the championship, not only because of the volcano and related flight cancellations, but also because he had to find a route where countries would allow Indian passport holders to transit through.

Obviously, if he had a EU passport, things would be much easier.
India does not allow dual citizenship, and Anand will not leave his Indian citizenship.

Such is the pride this man has for his country. A country where he does not live now, and a country that does not care enough for him (in my opinion).

Yes, he has been accorded the Padma awards, but is that enough for this Legend?

Why cant we show his matches live everywhere in India, and celebrate his and India's success while he is still playing?

I feel proud to be an Indian, and proud that Vishy is one of us.
He does not mind going through the hardships of applying for Visas for every new country that he travels, just to keep his Indian citizenship.
Indeed, hats off to you Vishy.
God Bless you.

Regards,
Gautam Kaulgud
Jai Hind

Gautam,

Touching words, indeed!

Anand is truly an inspiration & you have brought out the stark realities when travelling with an Indian Passport!

In a way, I am reminded of what Einstein said of Gandhiji - future generation will not believe such a man lived amongst us! What a tribute from the greatest scientist!

Sigh, times have changed! Many will say no big deal, we would have got freedom, anyway!

Mostly, Anand is an unsung hero! The like of him we might not see again - a true world champion, living by his principles!

Enjoy the moments!

this nithyananda is a foetus, he knows nothing about chess. very naive and ignorant.

chess is one of the toughest games in the world my boy. There are 2.2 x 10 to the power of 227 moves possible, it is a coputer approximation, and this number is so huge so that it an be considered infinite number for human purpose.

this number is begger than all drops in all oceans on earth for example. do you fathom that idea ??

so these players have to think soooo much. The possible variations never finish. Like looking for a ring in an ocean.

I myself was a cricket, foot bal captain too. I am an excellent swimer too.

So I watch all great things, games sports etc.

I like chess because it is soooo tough and as a human beings who are considered as intelligent animals I owe something to nature, so by playing and watching chess game I feel I am able to return something to the nature.

I want to be a broadminded human being who like anything great and respectable not narrowminded like you.

Chess is one such thing which deserves to receive human respect as we are controlling all animals on earth because of our brain. we are ruling earth because of intelligence not due to or strength.

This nithyadukkha is so selfish. he has no gratitude for the nature for giving him human brain so that an insect like him doesn't get trampled by giants like elephants. Also not eaten by beasts like lion and tigers. very arrogant. he doesn't know what differentiates him from those power

Hi Vishy Fans,
Lets all DEMAND THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT to give "Bharat Ratna" to our proud champion.

Though I am a fan of cricket, I know its only te cricket is recognized without any hurdle even they play all for bettings.

We shall all make the beurocrats and politicians to understand that there is one game as CHESS which only the intelligents can play and no politics can win....

Absolutely!! I don't think it's necessary to wait until this match is over before we start our campaign - but, it'll surely strengthen our cause if we do it after.

BAHRATH RATHNA to VISWANATHAN ANAND!!

Absolutely right Mr.Ravi Kiran. Vishy Anand should be given Bharat Ratna before any other sports person (especially a cricketer - as the game is played by just 9 countries but hyped as `world' game). But do you think wisdom will dawn on our politicians in this regard. They count everything in terms of votes. Giving Bharat Ratna to Tendulkar means the votes of Maharashtrians and may be a few thousand youths. Congress will jump at these votes and ignore the true Ratna - Vishy Anand, because there are no votes if they give him Bharat Ratna.

Hmmm ..Right pitty politics. Though I think Tendulkar too deserve bharat ratna but Vishy belongs to the same league of extra ordinary gentlemen who have excelled in sports and bring India the fame.

Mr Iyer, Anand refused to play Chess Olympiads for India for 10 years because the money being offered to him was less. He finally agreed only when he was paid more than the total money paid to 5 other team members like sasikiran, ganguly, harikrishna etc.

North or South, it is all inside a person to be corrupt or not. The only thing is that ppl. come into focus only when they caught. Ministers from south are good example of corrupt politicians but at the same time north Indian politician are no less than them in terms of corruption. In the end only the average ppl. like us suffers. We fight on the forums, accuses each other. This only benefits the politicians because this takes away the focus from them and main focus becomes North, south, east-west. Bengali, marathi, Punajbi, andhrite, tamil, keralite, UP,bihar ...
