We have all the time for the IPL saga which is nothing more than betting and well placed people making millions in the name of entertainment nothing to do as a sport. Whereas Anand has revolutionised the game and placed the India's name as a chess playing and winning nation. India did not bother even to submit a bid in the first place whereas countries like Turkey came up for sponsoring. Topolov's manager is known for his unsporting statements and he was very much involved in the toilet gate controversy. Anand has the audacity to raise above the occasion, it was a Force Majeure situation in entire Europe, but he made it to Sofia that is vital. We as a nation should support him during this testing period of his career and media should also make wide coverage. Irrespective of being a South Indian or North Indian or for any religion or sect. He is an Indian and playing for the nation. Let us support this in principle. All the best Anand and we are with you.
This is not something new to Anand. remember the world championship with karpov which he lost in rapid round. he had to play tiring mathces against all and finally meet karpov within a weeks time while karpov had all the time in the world to prepare. Everybody knew who the real champion was at that time. The organisers would have postponed the matches by weeks if the same happened to karpov :)

Very much true, It was in 1998 where he lost to him in Luasanne, Switzerland. In Anand admission "Karpov played a 100 meters dash and I had to play a marathon". It was a moral victory for Anand. I wish he repeats the same feat as Bonn, Germany

To postpone the event for 3 day will have a significant cost. Especially if it is festival / tourist season, or some other major events are also going on. I am sure organisers would have considered all aspects before taking the decision. Anand used pressure tatics instead of dialogue which is our trademark (probably we are not good in dialogue) makes things more difficult.

It was a situation not under his control. He was indeed traveling to Sofia to participate. Your comments are based on the explanation issued by the Bulgarian Chess federation. They were issuing false statements. Anand first sent an email to them about the situation when he got to know that his connecting flight to Sofia was cancelled. Chess is a mind game and Anand needed adequate rest. He finally reached Sofia after a tiresome 40 hour journey. Bulgarians desperately wanted Topalov to become World Champion and their actions were indeed as expected. But You are a bloody loser who don't have the eligibility to speak against Anand.

Several flights between European cities were cancelled and most of the trains have been booked because of this. So postponement because of a major natural was expected. Bulgarian organizers have been trying to use pressure tactics even before the start of the match by making them play under Sofia rules, which Anand refused. This is a mind game and there is a lot at stake.

The question of being south indian is not there. I dont know where does this comes from. I am north Indian but a big fan of Vishy. First of all these are not national events where he is representing country. So Govt. can not just start a push in each matter. Personally I feel Vishy should be given a chance but final word is always with organisers.

Correct. Vishy has been champion in all terms, so hopefully he can cope with such situation and can prove a point to the World.
i am upset by FIDE's decision for not granting requested postponment of the tournment. Its really unfair for a player to play on arrival after travelling 40 hours. FIDE should think twice before making a statment of such a stature..he (anand) is not disrespctful to organiser but explaing his condition due to cancellation of flights.
Suppose Anand was a Caucasian and the host country was non-european / American. If the same incident had occured, all hell would have broken lose.......dont you have any humanitarian consideration, the reason for delay is natural and not misbehaviour etc....
In spite of the physical strain, I hope Anand wins hands down. That will be a fitting lesson to these "Whites"

Since things were organised, Vishy anand should have taken the rail/road route considering that it was made known that ash cloud will take longer to clear.
