he has won 15 slams. he has nothing else to say anymore. hate him as much as you want....he has answered all questions on the tennis court..where it matters and he is not yet finished....
Like Marat Safin. I thought he came to play after a heavy dose of vodka the prev night still had the hang over. despite that he beat Roger. He has every thing. Booming serve and punishing groud strokes. Only problem was he was not moving well whic may be due to tiring semifinals of having to wait and wait. But this guy is amazing and he is going to be un beatable.

not so fast Calspadeaspade,we know what happedned to others like djokovic or roddick(1 slam wonder).......federer and nadal will bounce back and rule the men tennis again......... but if ur prediction will become true, then its good for men tennis and specially good for the spectators
This is the first of multiple GS for delpo..he must be one of the tallest persons to win a grand slam singles title. However even though he is quick for his height, that is something that would become slower as he gets older .. Wud still expect Nadal and federer to dominate though
Federer's 1st serve percentage did him in for the second time in major finals this season. It was his 1st serve percentage that cost him the match also at the AO final. However JMDP is one hell of a player. As a tennis fan I will only hope that he does not fade away like Safin or Djokovik.
Re: federer's low 1st serve

true. the two finals were similar in many aspects....peculiarly fed's poor serve % and 11 DOUBLE FAULTS!!! many at crunch situations....
forget federer, forget nadal...here is the new champion and a legend in the making....juan martin del potro....
he has traits of both federer (the cool with which he faces, is a decent mover on court and plays well at net too, brilliant serve) and nadal (ferocious groundstrokes, brute power and what not...)
with age, he will definitely improve his game further and be a force to be reckoned with for long time coming...

Everyone said the same about Marat Safin....and had it not been for a rare show of inspirational play in the 2005 Australian open, he would have been a one slam wonder like Petr Korda or Carlos Moya.......
Let Del Potro win atleast another slam in the next season for us to start comparisions with the iconic Federer or the brilliant Nadal.....

yeah even i know that....but marat who had many ups and downs throughout his career (even in his hay days, he was not consistent enough for what a no.1 ranked player, which he once was, ought to be)...
delpo on the other hand has already displayed his consistency at the top level ever since he got going mid season last to win 4 consecutive tournaments....and his run has improved ever since...he has not flashed onto the stage with brilliant performance in just one or two tournaments, but has built upon his steady results over the last few years....
that shows in his year-end rankings, which has improved for each of the last 4 years...

@Ravindra, No doubt delpotro is a very good player.......but at first make him play some years........at first make him win many slams like nadal(roger is far away, nobody can beat him in no of grandslams) then say him a gr8 player and a legend......
by the way in his peak days safin had won many tournaments, though not many grandslams, but definitely had won many tournaments including some masters series which till now delpotro never won,so 1st make delpotro win some then we can say he is a gr8 player, otherwise he will remain so called good player like many others
I saw his match against Nadal, and he just blew him away. He has an amazing forehand and a devastating back hand. He hits so hard that sometimes, even a great retriever like Nadal was left gasping. Del Potro is awesome. Lets see if he remains consistent. Congrats.
Re: Now i want to see Robin Soderling assert himself!!
by Calspadeaspade on Sep 15, 2009 11:36 PM
No way. Soderling tries to play the same game as Roger but a little less and his timing is not as good as Roger. Delpotro is a different story. He has the goods to beat anyone. In fact against Fed he did not play his very best. So Del potro is only going to improve. He will be deadly.
