Bhupathi & Paes deserve to be laded for their achievements
by Yogesh Gandhi on Sep 14, 2009 12:11 PM

Over the year Bhupathi and Paes have created a reputaion for being excellent team (doubles) players. Their Grand Slam achievements surely will make any Indian proud. Had they played together, they would have had more titles against their names.

After Paes and Bhupati...
by Anjali Mishra on Sep 14, 2009 11:15 AM  | Hide replies

...there is really no one to take tennis in India forward.

Somdev is ok but not of that level.

I hope we would live to see the day when an Indian would win a singles grand slam.

Thats the prime question Benjamin - why dont the top players ever play doubles. Sampras, Lendl, Agassi, Edberg hardly ever played any doubles. It proves that doubles has a kind of secondary status and is more like a filler event with singles being the prime event. All the money and respect in Tennis goes to Singles. In fact only guys who dont succeed in singles like Paes, enlist in doubles.

I keep this stupid observation again and again in rediff forums. It is really absurd.

Why doesn't Federer doesn't play football. Does it means it is not worthy game.

Why not Ricky ponting bowl? Does it mean batting really key in cricket.

Why don't you understand the term called "Specialist"?

Benjamin,

Federer is my favorite tennis player. He is obviously a better player compared to Paes.

In the interest of Swiss getting one more Gold, he played doubles and did win. But it did distract his chances on winning Singles medal in Olympics. Do you agree.

Players who are better singles players continue to focus their energy on becoming Champs in singles.

If Federer thinks that he could be a true all rounder and can win singles and doubles titles. Then why isn't he playing. If doen't even make business sense for him
