Paes has six doubles and four mixed doubles and a bronze medal in Olympics while Bhupati has four doubles and seven mixed doubles in Grand Slams. What a wonderful achievement.Score is even with 11 titles each.CONGRATULATIONS. Keep it up.

The Real sports persons in India are Leander Paes,Mahesh Bhupati,Abhinav Bindra,Vishy Anand,Pankaj Advani etc. These are the sports persons have brought laurel and fame by winning Many a titiles in toughest of Sports where thousand of competitors are there.Cricketers are fake sport person they compete among 5-6 countries and boast about ranking. It 's time we buzz off fake sportpersons(cricketers).

@BURBAK SINGH!!! You can add Vijendar Singh, Mary Kom, Pankaj Advani and Saina Nehwal in that list... Actually there are many more, but these are the ones you missed...
Over the year Bhupathi and Paes have created a reputaion for being excellent team (doubles) players. Their Grand Slam achievements surely will make any Indian proud. Had they played together, they would have had more titles against their names.

Thats the prime question Benjamin - why dont the top players ever play doubles. Sampras, Lendl, Agassi, Edberg hardly ever played any doubles. It proves that doubles has a kind of secondary status and is more like a filler event with singles being the prime event. All the money and respect in Tennis goes to Singles. In fact only guys who dont succeed in singles like Paes, enlist in doubles.

I keep this stupid observation again and again in rediff forums. It is really absurd.
Why doesn't Federer doesn't play football. Does it means it is not worthy game.
Why not Ricky ponting bowl? Does it mean batting really key in cricket.
Why don't you understand the term called "Specialist"?

but vasant have u seen federer trump the paes in olympics so if u say they are double specialint how could a singles player trump them

Benjamin,
Federer is my favorite tennis player. He is obviously a better player compared to Paes.
In the interest of Swiss getting one more Gold, he played doubles and did win. But it did distract his chances on winning Singles medal in Olympics. Do you agree.
Players who are better singles players continue to focus their energy on becoming Champs in singles.
If Federer thinks that he could be a true all rounder and can win singles and doubles titles. Then why isn't he playing. If doen't even make business sense for him

Re: Re: Re: Congratulations
by benjamin antao on Sep 14, 2009 11:28 AM
ya you are right .... but then seeing the way fed won in olympic doubles the reason of haveing doubles is questionable ....
Re: Re: Congratulations
by benjamin antao on Sep 14, 2009 11:15 AM
right now the singles dont play doubles cause they think it ends their singles career
