BHOLA NANDY DOES FOUL PLAY, DENIES MOHUN BAGAN TO PRACTICE
by Avik Bose on Oct 26, 2009 08:59 PM

BHOLA NANDY DOES FOUL PLAY, DENIES MOHUN BAGAN TO PRACTICE IN SALT LAKE.
Coach Karim Bencharifa usually prepares his practice schedule for 2-4 weeks. He had kept Thursday, 22nd October and Friday, 23rd October practice sessions in Salt Lake Stadium at 3.30 p.m. and accordingly club had took permission for this.

However, on 21st October Mohun Bagan club officials were told by Mr. Bhola Nandy that club cannot keep their practice sessions on 22nd October in Salt Lake as FIFA delegation is coming to visit the stadium. Coach Karim then contacted Mr. Nandy and pleaded for some time in early morning even at 7 a.m., but Mr. Bhola refused and said, "No team will practice on 22nd in Salt Lake at any time throughout the day."
This was a blatant lie, as on 22nd October, East Bengal club practiced in Salt Lake Stadium at 3.30 p.m. It is such shocking that the time slot which Mohun Bagan was supposed to practice has been given to East Bengal and added to this, Mr. Bhola did not even allow Mohun Bagan to practice in Salt Lake the whole day.
This Bhola Nandy, supervisor of the stadium,is actually an agent of East bengal and always work against Mohunbagan. This corrupted person is a shame to the post he occupies and to the entire Bengal as a whole. He should be removed from his post which he got by licking the legs of his Mafia bosses.
But these people should know that their reign of corruption and Mafiaraj around the Salt Lake stadium is going to end soon........

Good to see Subhash Bhowmik receiving it back
by Souvik Das on Oct 26, 2009 03:21 PM  | Hide replies

He is a criminal who was caught red-handed taking bribe. He is roaming around free only because this is India and everything is possible in this country. So last year when in his comeback match EB beat MB by 3-0, I felt bad that some bad people always receive the goods. But within 1 year, 9 defeats of EB followed by these 5 goals ... I think poetic justice has been done.

What a drama! What a way to bury the hurt accumlated over the past 34 years!

Mohun Bagan shocked and awed East Bengal 5-3 in their I-League Kolkata derby on Sunday and put the arch-rivals’ most-talked about 5-0 victory in 1975 in perspective in a manner footballing fantasies are made of.

So many moments and so many colours captured the emotion of one team and embarrassment for another in front of 85,0000 fans throughout the 90 minutes that it seemed frozen in symmetry.

As East Bengal’s most jealously guarded pride in the derby history lay in a shambles at the Salt Lake Stadium, destiny made Edeh Chidi realize that his name would now be the part of the green and maroon folklore. The Nigerian not only struck a hat-trick but added one more to the scoresheet to become the only player to score four in a derby.

The WOW factor of the 5 goals
by Souvik Das on Oct 26, 2009 03:03 PM

There is a huge difference between 5-0 and 5-3. They are not equivalent in any way. In 1975 it was a clean sweep by a dominating team whereas yesterday's match was quite competitive. But definitely the Mariners should rejoice because the Bangals insulted the spirit of the sport in many ways because of that 5-NIL victory - first of all Subhash Bhowmik was overtly aggressive post the 1975 win and used profanity against many a Mariners, who later on became celebrated players in their own rights. Secondly the Bangals celebrated 25/30 years of 5-0 victory, which goes totally against the spirit of the game. Thirdly despite the straight nine "non-losses" of MB against EB over 2007-2008, leading media in Bengal was not ready to give MB its due credit because the leading daily in Bengal is known for its favoritism for EB. So because of all these reasons we, the Mariners need to think parochial and enjoy. Otherwise, 5-0 is not a big deal when we talk about arch-rivals in the international arena. However, as true supporters of the club we should be happier to see MB lift their 4th i-League and never let the current bunch of players feel complascent. Barretto should set an example of professionalism.

N.B. The ideal scoreline yesterday could have been 7-3 hadn't 2 of the MB attempts hit the bar post.

It’s Chidi Chidi bang bang
by Priya Nair on Oct 26, 2009 02:25 PM

For those who vouch that facts, at times, can be stranger than fiction, Sunday could be deemed as a day when facts propelled to such heights that even fiction, for sure, would not dare to compete with them.
Edeh Chidi, who had promised after missing goals galore in Bagan’s last CFL match that he “kept the goals in his pockets” for the derby, had other plans. In the 17th minute, right back Surkumar Singh, after gaining possession near the centre circle, went past a couple of rival defenders with a brilliant solo run, cut into the box and placed the ball for Chidi, who finished it off with clinical perfection.
With the score 3-3 at the halfway mark, Chidi decided to create history, in style. He added two more in the 46th and the 65th minute to become a legend in Indian football.

And Nigerian striker scores four in 5-3 derby win as Mohun Bagan exorcise 1975 ghost ............

5-finger revenge, served cold
by Sanjoy Ray on Oct 26, 2009 02:19 PM

Mohun Bagan supporters can no longer be taunted with the “five-finger sign”; 1975 has become just another year.

Die-hards who had vowed never to return to the Maidan since the 5-0 drubbing by sworn enemy East Bengal on Black September 29 that year — giving up a part of their existence — have had a weight lifted off their shoulders.

Their club today exorcised a 34-year-old demon by pumping five goals past East Bengal for the first time in its history, winning an I-League derby 5-3.

Manish Banerjee, a Maidan veteran of 40 years, wept in joy: “It’s revenge. It’s pure magic. I won’t have to die with the shame.”

The revenge may not have been perfect — East Bengal scored three goals and its supporters will no doubt point out the game was once poised 3-3 — but Bagan fans will not care today.

For 34 years, no matter how many times Bagan beat its arch rival, how many tournaments it won, an East Bengal fan just had to say “1975” to end all debate.

Pratik Basu of Baranagar wasn’t even born in 1975 but knows all about it. “It has always been a thorn in our flesh. I was hoping for a win, but five goals!!! I’m not sure I shall see such a match in my life again.”“I was so happy when the East Bengal stands began emptying after the fifth goal,” a man in Bagan colours returning from the stadium said.
