Fabrice Santoro of France at 37 years old is a top 50 player. Martina Navratilova at 45 was winning Grand Slams Doubles with Leander Paes. Leander Paes is 36 and a top 10 doubles player and recently the US Open doubles champ with his partner. Age is no bar.

somdev can defeat nadal easily... suppose he get to play nadal in 1st or 2nd round of a grand slam then somdev can win... only 1st or 2nd round because he wont last beyond that.
now that his rankings are increasing he might get direct entry for grand slams.

Why top 50, you can even reach the top 10 if you stay true to yourself added to hard work and dedication. But, you will stand no chance if you go the Sania Mirza way or the Indian Cricketers way by being obsessed with stardom, money making endorsements, or becoming ecstatic with one or two wins a year and expect to be recognised by the country. International tennis is one area where there are no godfathers needed ( unlike cricket or any sport in India). One only has to work hard and sacrifice those everyday temptations. Remember Tennis careers are short and one stays at the top only for a few years. Those few years require a dozen years of work. Follow these things and who knows you might even reach No.1!

This is really amazing improvement to reach good position. He has done alot of hard work. He needs to do consistentely. There is no adoubt he can reach to the number one. The think is its required lot of hard work. There is no secret of success. It's only hard work can bring u ling in your life. That's what our inidan tennis team has done alot of time.We have won grandslan tornament these year.Good luck for all the people.

"There is no doubt he can reach to the number one" -Are you crazy ? Somdev is 24. Nadal is a year yonger and has won 6 slams. Federer had already won 6 slams by the time he was 24. Here we're taling about the 24 year old who is yet to win a single title (forget about a slam) as being the next no 1 !!!!

Stop bashing him

Thats the problem with Indians. They just day dream of being the No1. They deal for everything and end up with nothing. This fellow is practical. Knows his limitations and has given himself a realistic time limit. Its his life and he is leading it better than other Indians. And being in top 50 of men's single with genetic, economic and social handicap is a huge achievement in itself.

I don't think so!! I think he has the game to be in top 20!! If davydenko can be in top 5, why can't Somdev be?? Davydenko is not a very talented player but practices hard and is very fit and full of ambition to make it to a grand slam final!! Thats it really!!

Davydenko turned pro in 1999 (when he was just 18) and reached top 20 in 2005. Somdev turned pro just last year and he is already 24 and typically it takes around 4-5 years to make it big once a player becomes a pro. Somdev might be talented but definitely 24 is too late to turn pro. Look at guys at the top - Nadal entered top 50 when he was 16, Federer turned pro when he was 16 and same goes for Del Potro

Ya he is already 24 and will be 27 in another 3 years. I doubt if he can make it in top 50 at an age of 27. To be realistic, I think he has to be satisfied with a career best rank of around 70-80. Problem is he started professional career too late. He is already 24 and just about an yar old in professional tennis while most of the guys who make it to top 20 turn pro by 18-19.
