Definitely this time Federer is hot favorite to win the Roland Garros first time. See the difference in the points won by him against nadal in Madrid Open final.

Nadal Loss is insignificant
by m senthilkumar on May 18, 2009 10:37 PM  | Hide replies

Nadal loss can be attributed to the fatigue caused by his 4hr long match with Djokovic. Besides, the new madrid clay surface is much faster than other clay surfaces, which favors federers game. Obviouly Federer has improved his game compared to the level when he was palying in last australian open. These factors contributed to Fedex Success against Nadal in Madrid. However, Paris clay is slowest surfaces of all, which is surely going to favor Nadal. I tip nadal to win French provided he stays injury free. However, fedex maintain the current level of play, which is enough to regain his wimbledon crown. Then Djokovic and Murrays will dent a hole in Fedex ambitions in american hard courts if he does not imrpove his form. Murray will be the hot favorite for US open

Nadal fans were claiming......
by Anurag Rathore on May 18, 2009 12:14 PM  | Hide replies

No one can beat Nadal on clay. Federer can only beat him in dream.
Now they are hiding their faces. Federer did it again. No surprise for me. Federer is always a better player than Nadal. He is a complete player and has nothing left to prove. Four years of his dominance shows everything about his class.

There you are. After a really long time it's been a good day for folks like you and bad day for Nadal's fans.

I'm not a Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray fan but I do watch tennis more than any other game thoese days. And I'm a big fan of this great rivalry (Federer- Nadal, and now Djokovic).

Since you are always right about tennis, do everyone of us here a favour. Please let us know who you think is going to win the French Open ? And Winbledon ? And US Open this year ?

Varun.......I do follow tennis and please see my comments based on player's performance and my observation....

French Open: Nadal......no question about it. Losing one game on clay in one year doesn't mean he can not win French Open. He is king of clay and conditions will be different at French Open.

Wimbledon: Most probably Nadal. If not Nadal, then will be Federer.

US Open: I doubt Nadal. Chances will be good for Federer, but its too early to predict for that tournament.

I know fans of Federer will not like my comments, but this will be the prediction from many experts.

Cheers

I am saying it by seeing Federer performance in Grandslams. He is reaching in each Grandslam final. Beating him in 5 sets match is different thing rather than beating him in 3 sets matches.
According to ranking system Federer will face Djokovic in semifinal while Nadal will face A.Murray. I think A.Murray can beat Nadal on Grass/Hard court.
Even I feel Federer could win the Aus Open also if he faced Verdasco in final. He always lost his confidence against Nadal but this victory can change his mental blockness against Nadal.

Best of luck to Federer for French Open.

Cheers!

Whenever Murray starts having no.1 aspirations, he should recall what Nadal did to him at Wimbledon last year. Murray can beat Nadal on Grass Courts!! Ha! Ha! Ha!

I must admit you guys are good analysts, better than me. And I'm sure you guys watch more tennis than me.

From what I've seen (of the four top men's players, Federer, Nadal,Djokovic,Murray) in the past three years, I feel each one has it in him to beat the other on his day.

However, two of them have the confidence and experience and the important "champions" mentality. You may call it the "attitude for the big stage". Those two are are Nadal & Federer.

And among the two, one really has the hunger to improve and raise the level of his game time and again, irrespective of the opposition and past records and surfaces and previous days stamina-sucking game. He also doesn't seem to have any mental block against any player. To add to that he is quite humble and has respect for other players and their achievements. The ideal characteristics of a true champion, whoever he is.

All those who say that Nadal was tired and so Fedex won have lost their senses. He was the same in australian open.... how could he win then.
Also Fedex played much better at the nets and was superb with his drop shots. What was important to see was the low number of UF errors.

It may be noted that last time Fedex defeated Nadal on Clay in nov 2007 nadal had a very tiring semis with Djokivic and Fedex had an easy one. But you cant blame fedex for that, if he played the semis better. Fedex is a true humble champion and will be the greatest.

My guesses are that Nadal will face an upset this year at french open before the SF..... May god bless my plans...

Federer palyed much better
by Raja Bas on May 18, 2009 11:29 AM

Some poeple are pointing that - Nadal was tired. That is a nonsense statement - Look what Nadal said - If you have stayed 4 hrs in a court - that means you have not played well. Alos Federer did bear Del Potro and if that match would have lasted for couple hours - you people would not have chance to complain. Take into account that , Del Potro has beaten Nadal in one of the Masters. The fact of the matter is
1. The fast court of Madrid helped Fedex's game
2. His First serve was much better this time
3. Deployed a diffrent tactics - Opened the backhand corner of Nadal more frequently and used drop shots more effectively
4. Last of all - Nadal was erractic - Could not expect him to play that badly

It will be a different ball game altogether in RG - and I still believe Rafa has a much better chance.

But do not write off Fedex - He is a true champion !

Rafa was really exhausted following his 4hour semifinal duel with Djokovic. Otherwise he would have brushed aside Federer.

Anyways, both will play at French for sure and Federer wont forget the mauling last year.

Now we can expect French Open from Federer. I always think Federer is a complete player and enough skill to stunned his opponents in age of 27.
