F1 has this habit of knee jerk reaction to the last year's result. In the days of Schumi's complete dominance, the new points system was introduced with 8 points for the 2nd place to reduce the advantage for winning the race. However, Schumi still managed to win the championship. However it indirectly resulted in Hamilton's win last year in spite of Massa winning more races, they have tried to introduce this. It makes sense to go back to old points system, which respected the fact that racing is all about winning & not scoring points.
