Gerrad,C ronaldo,are good only at club level football.They rarely done well at international arena.Messi,looks promising and hopefully,will end up as a modern great.He is super talented.But now,kaka,fits the bill of great player.He has done well both at the club level and and at the international level.
I think it takes a lot of character, which Zidane amply displays, to acknowledge the support that the middle gives and which gives him the opportunities to hit those goals. Makelele was top class and Gerrard is also good, though perhaps not as good as the wily Makelele.
What Gerrard needs to achieve greatness is a team to match. Where is the TEAM that can build on his play, when it comes to England and yeah, sometimes even within Liverpool?
I agree about Gerrard really being the engine and soul of the Liverpool team. Gerrard has constantly under-achieved at international level for England, that is one thing that holds him back from true greatness

why only at international level ? Apart from the infamous CL win , he doesnt really have anything to show at even club level. He is a fantastic player , one of the world's best probably but not THE best .He would have been more celebrated at a bigger club who have some ambition .

ah abhishek. No offence but you have no idea what you are talking about! What do you mean he would be more celerated at a bigger club? Liverpool has been ranked the top europeon club in the past five years by UEFA's official rating system! It doesn't any get bigger than that! Liverpool is awesome!period! YNWA

what the hell does the best team in europe for the last 5 years mean??? just a bloody top ranking in the uefa seeding system. so what do you have to show for it? one champions league trophy. and no league titles for the last 19 years. don't think it will ever come in rafa's time!!!
so yes liverpool is a great club. and gerrard is a great palyer. but the best??? not a chance. abhishek has a point. gerrard with the english team has to prove himself on the international stage to even think of becoming legends like the likes of zidane himself...
a case in point. ryan giggs. the most celebrated footballer in the premier league. but alas playing for wales, has not ever given him the centre stage at the euros or at the world cup.
so gerrard has a long way to go... if he ever makes it!!!

Ashok u need to realize one thing premiership is like our ranji trophy where Champions league is like World cup Real Madrid - 9 A.C Milan - 7 Liverpool - 5 Are the 3 best clubs when u consider the maximum number of title shots, only 5 clubs have got the rights to keep the trophy with them and Liverpool is the only club to get honoured No other English clubs has won many Chmapions League. The CHampions league finals held at istanbul , liverpool won it mainly because of Gerrad, Watch the game dude.....
