by Devin Aaron on Mar 05, 2009 01:40 AM

The games shud go on bt aside frm attacks on sportsperson in pakistan, india recently has also suffred frm attacks in big cities i.e mumbai. Evn delhi ws also subjectd to attacks b.f the mumbai ones on the parlimentary.

So its not the sportin event tht shud be the primary reason to beef up security, big cities like these shud be protected properly in the first place for citizens of india nd tourists

Commonwealth games.
by arungopal agarwal on Mar 04, 2009 01:07 PM

Chidamberam should ban all public meetings/functions and put common public into salve conditions due to fear of terrorists.
He has disgraced our democracy strength by way of reconsidering IPL.

protect the countrymen first
by Chanakya on Mar 04, 2009 12:52 PM  | Hide replies

any sensible politician and government would first ensure that the security of the country and its people are ensured first before inviting guest from other various countries for any event. particularly, games like IPL, commonwealth etc. not only involves large number of sportspersons in and around the world, there would be jampacked stadiums which would be easy target for attack and the consequences would be unimaginable.
It is a fact that India's security apparatus is weak, intelligence is poor, machinery is inadequate and particularly during this recession period, it is not proper to hold any games unless the country improves economically as well as security-wise. postpone all such events by 3 years minimum.

I agree w.you since the last major sporting event fr held in india is the asian games which ws long time ago nd since thn ther ar no huge sportin events i.e commonwealth, asian games, olympics or world champsionships in athletics. Evn recently whn india nd other countries wer selected to host world track championships this fall, india lost the bidding out of 3 big countries includin india nd tht ws germany nd australia.

India, germany, australia wr the big countries to host this event out of spain, croatia, south korea, belgium and morocco. So its obvious tht if delhi the most populated city out of all the cities in these countries lost out the bidding, then ther is some reason.

Commonwealth is a huge task nd i think the construction of facilities shud hav finished some time ago, considering india is a huge country nd it wud be a great host to these sporting events.
