While I agree that Saina Nehwal doesn't get even nearly as much coverage as she should get, it is wrong to demean Sania Mirza who has put India on the tennis map again. Everyone knows tennis singles is the real tennis and doubles is way down the ladder. Given that Sania Mirza is the first Indian to enter the top 30 in singles after Ramesh Krishnan.. a gap of nearly 30 years. Neither Paes nor Bhupati have cracked the top 100 in singles.
Lets not lose perspective in our effort to get credit for Saina Nehwal which she thoroughly deserves. I do agree that Saina's accomplishment is greater than Sania's, but that doesn't mean we rubbish Sania. Regards.

achievements can always be compared my friend...be it in any field
SANIA PLEASE STOP GIVING SUCH COMMENTS BECAUSE YOU DONT WORTH IT,YOU THINK YOURSELF AS A GREAT PLAYERS, YES I DO AGREE BUT AMONG THE INDIANS, SHOW US UR PERFORMANCE IN THE INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT, DONT IMAGINE THAT IF YOU WERE A BOY YOU WOULD HAVE PLAYED CRICKET,BUT REMEMBER CRICKET IS NOT LIKE TENNIS WHERE PLAYERS OF YOUR STANDARD BECOME POPULAR, YOU ARE ONLY A FIGURE AMONG THE CIPHERS IN INDIA. I BET IF THERE IS A POLL, YOU WILL COME FIRST IN THIS CATEGORY.
Sania Mirza 'had' got a very good prospect about 5 - 6 years back. She got spoilt by undue media coverage and she thought she was the No.1 in the world and started behaving like one and did'nt improve the game. Very unfortunate.

Or maybe she has reached her limit which is top 30. That is nothing to sneer about. I don't think that any Indian woman was ever even in the top 300 in tennis! And she is the highest rated singles tennis player from India after Ramesh Krishnan entered top 20 in singles nearly 30 years ago.
Kudos to Saina Nehwal for her splendid achievement in the Indonesian open. Her victory is a great achievement considering the quality of tournament. Being a number 7 player in a sports like badminton by no means is an ordinary achievement. However, the kind of coverage that she got after her outstanding performance in Indian media is very disheartening.Indian media has become victim of glamour when it comes to covering sports. If Sania Mirza reaches second or third round of an ordinary tournament in tennis, there is huge coverage given to the achievement. Way back in 2007, when Sania Mirza played Serena William in 3rd round of Australian open, Indian media covered it as if it was the Australian open final. When she lost miserably, each and every point won by her was covered by media in glorified fashion.
It is understandable that Indian media is crazy about covering cricket however discremantory treatment to sportperson in other sports on the ground of glmaour is highly uncalled for. If we wish more Saina to emerge in our sports arena, they should be given deserving space in print as well as electronic media.

Its better fir saina nehwal when media does not focus on her too much as she can concentrate on becoming number 1 player. if sania mirza wins atleast one set in next game media makes her as winning wimbeldon. Qudos to Saina Nehwal
I don't know why media give this girl so much attention...she has not much class in game...after wining one or two matches she always gets kicked out of every tournament and comes with lame excuses of Injury etc.
I think, may be because she is a mus*lim girl, the psedo secular media keeps her highlighted just to pamper the so called biggest minority community in India maintain their secular image.

Crap player??! No Indian woman was ever even in the top 300 in tennis let alone top 30 which Sania reached. So what if she doesn't become champion? Isnt her accomplishment already creditable? She is the highest rated singles tennis player from India after Ramesh Krishnan entered top 20 in singles nearly 30 years ago.
