Roger was better in the final.......!!!!!!!!!!
by Geetu Nair on Jul 08, 2009 07:01 PM

There have been lot of messages making rounds mentioning Andy was better than Roger in the final...

And one common comment is that Had Andy not missed the second set after leading 6-2 in tie-break... it would have been over in three staright sets.!!!!!!!!
Now both Andy and Roger had the chance to win and both played brilliantly...
Infact it can also be noticed that Roger had a break point in the first set to take a lead of 6-5... and if he had won he could have served to take the first set 7-5... Instead he lost it 5-7..... And how people write straight sets Andy would have won.. third set tie-break..Roger thrashed him...... And finally it was in the fifth set which Roger showed what a champion he is... Did people notice the games from scorline of 6-6, Roger was serving like anything and was winning his service with a scoreline of game - love or game -15..except for the one game at 8-8 where he allowed a breakpoint for Andy.. whereas Andy always used to fight back in his serve after being 0-30 down... So Roger was the man who was creating opportunity to WIN more than Andy in the decider... and with the scoreline at 13-12, and 14-13 he pushed Andy like anything and finally won breaking Andy in the next game to win 16-14.

Mr. Anurag Rathore,
According to you Roddick played well but Federer won luckily. Last year Nadal won but not on luck. Why two different views for two five set matches. That shows you are chamcha of nadal and you hate Federer. And coming to being junior I think you dont understand english. Kishore has written that Federer has achieved a lot in the span of 7 years. That means even Nadal plays for another 10 years and wins 30 Grandslams he will still not be considered better than Federer if he doesnot achie in 2 more years what Federer has achieved in 7 years. And as you rightly said I think you are very close to Nadal(Hey they made the Gay Law legal) why is that you always crib on Federers crying. Sportsmen also cry with ecstasy and the emotions they show are out of the pressure that is released after winning. Couch potatoes who know only writing blogs will not know what sport is all about. You and Aishwarya Patil have reached a stage where you have become a nusiance on the rediff blog. You dont understand the game nor you understand English.

Fed v Nadal last 3 yrs
by Vikas D on Jul 07, 2009 04:07 AM  | Hide replies

Grass Court Matches 3
Federer won 2
Nadal won 1

Hard Court matches 3
Federer won 2
Nadal won 1

Clay Court matches 7
Federer won 2
Nadal won 5

Total 13 Matches
Federer won 6
Nadal won 7

Nadal DID NOT dominate Federer completely. When Federer wins, it is one sided but when Nadal wins, it is always close and thats why all the disappointment for Federer and his fans.

On Hard Courts and Grass Courts, Federer has dominated Nadal, but Nadal did not reach the finals of many tournaments. Nadal reaches finals only on clay court tournaments, thats why more losses for Federer. More than half the matches played between these two have been played on Clay. Nadal is a better clay courter but not a greater player than Federer.

Just because Nadal has better head-to-head record against Federer does not make him greater. Richard Krajicek had a better record against Pete Sampras (Krajicek also won a wimbledon like Nadal) but that does not make him greater than the great Pete Sampras.

FedEX ALL TIME GREAT
by jaan i on Jul 06, 2009 01:54 PM

FedEX once again proved why he is great of all.
The best match i have seen till date.

AS a big fan of Fed, i think Andy really played well and never gave chance Federer until the last point. The only time Andy gave and Federer grabbed with both hands.
Well done Andy and i think u will break U.S open record of Federer.

doordarshan does it again
by vivek on Jul 06, 2009 01:22 PM  | Hide replies

It seems doordarshan will never change.
In sundays final which was telecast live in National channel you know what doordarshan did when score line read 5-7,6-6 and tiebrack 5-2 in favour of roddick - it discontinued the live coverage abrubtly and telecasted cricket match between India and WI. Its unfortunate for those who missed that great second set when federer went on to win with six continues points.

Doordarshan caters to the requirement of rural India where there are no Cable networks or satellite receivers, and rural India loves Cricket, and has no stomach for Tennis.

2008 Vs 2009
by Vijay on Jul 06, 2009 12:22 PM  | Hide replies

This match should definitely upstage the one played last year for the greatest match ever played.
This one featured 77 games against 62 played last year, and took whole of one hour less. Last year, there were some longer rallies, but it also shows how much time Nadal wastes between points. His time-wasting tactics also must have greatly contributed to Federer being out of sync.
This was a truly great match. With a little luck on his side, Roddick could have wrapped it up in three straight sets. In the last set though, he was the first one to blink, despite being the better player throughout the match. It was a pity one of them had to lose.

last year's was a better one simply coz of the rallies involved in every service game...in yesterday's match, evryone was holding comfortably..but rallies r the one's which increase the excitement when any of the palyer can come up with a wonderful wiiner....

hmm ...
Undoubtedly last year one for me .. different choices for different people thoough.. this time serve power mostly mattered ..
Now leave Nadal here ... Last years final was definitely at least as exciting (if not more) as this ..

FEDEX WINS
by Victor Mather on Jul 06, 2009 12:02 PM  | Hide replies

Indeed an epic final never seen before. Both players excelled and congratulations to both. There has to be one winner and one looser. In yesterdays epic final, both players won. Roddick for taking Fedex to five thrilling sets and Fedex for finally winning and creating history. Hope we can see many more matches of this intensity.

The Men's final was classic.Roddick played very well and if he had won no one could grudge it. Lucky that Fedx won.
But eh Women's final looked like a fixed match.Family affair.
