Oh come on Lord! He has at least achieved something. Fine he hasn't achieved a lot as a singles player and does not have a high singles ranking. But some players can play better in partnerships. Doubles is not a cakewalk, one needs physical & mental coordination and good understanding with your partner. Doubles tennis is different than singles tennis and it is in no way easier than singles tennis, otherwise all players who are good at individual level would always win doubles events. The Woodies, Woodbridge and Woodford, were average singles players, still as a team they count as champions as any Tennis fan would know. So understand that Paes or Bhupati for that matter have some achievements behind their names.

From your comments one can derive you have never seriously played Tennis and assuming this to be true, your comment is really pathetic. If you cannot do anything, at least appreiciate other people's achievments.

Leander and Mahesh are true stars international tennis. People who understand tennis can only appreciate that. Mr. Lord is a part time spectator and is probably not aware of the doubles and mixed doubles version of the game. Leander and Mahensh are definitely legends and comparable in the same seat of great doubles players like Woodies, Byrans, Max Mirnyl, Nestor, Zimonic. [Mr.Lords - have you heard these names? :-)]

True stars? Only in India!

Go up to any spectator in NYC, London, Paris or Melbourne during a slam and mention these names. NO ONE would have heard of them. How can they then be called international stars?

I've been to Wimbledon and these chaps play on courts with 10 people.

Not to mention the Mcanroe-Peter Fleming duo who reigned at the top during a time that John was No.1 in singles as well.

Part time spectator? That would be you. I've watched tennis since the late 1970s! The doubles players that you have named have errors. In that, only the Woodies and Bryans were reasonably well known. The other two just played with Paes and Bhupathi.

My question: Are their names mentioned alongside Borg, Laver, Sampras Connors etc? Nope. Only singles counts when it comes to rating great players. No doubles player is ever called a great all time player. It is a fact!

PEEP!!!!! WRONG Lord. Woodies are among the best players in the world, I really find it amusing you forgot this fact despite having watched the game since late 70s.

Did you ever take a racket in your hand and play Tennis? I don't mean whether you played Tennis with fat-bellied friends at some club on weekends. Did you ever take up the sport seriously, professionaly? (The intention behind asking this question is not to make any adverse comments about your achievments as a sportsman, just wonder how can you judge that only singles performance counts in a players career.)
You are a mere spectator of the sport and I feel sorry for you because u cannot appreciate other people's achievments.

Manav,

You referred to guys like Ganguly, Dravid etc as the "uncle brigade". Have you achieved more than any of them to make such a statement.

Hahahahaha....OWNED! Can't have different rules, mate!

Kay,

You made some "sweeping statements" about Tendulkar. Now I casn ask you the same thing. Who are you to make such statements? Can you bat better than Mr Tendulkar?

The whole argument is lame. Everytime there is a discussion on tennis (and Mirza), the defence is "what have you done in tennis" or can you play better than Mirza/Paes". Crap logic!
