Pick guys with big physique
by Atanu Chatterjee on Jan 30, 2009 12:15 PM

Another point i wanted to make is, to plan and organize things at the very begining of the budding footballers. The coaches mostly picks up footballers by looking at their with the ball skills. But thats old school concept. In a big group of young footballers interested in sports, they need to pick up the guys having growth rate much higher than others. And then try to make them skillfull. Because one can learn the skills of his own and can acquire stamina with hard practice, but big physique is something cant be coached.

Can't understand the media hype over the likes of chetri, bhutia etc. They are destined to play with the likes of jct, east bengal etc. They may be enthusiastic and eager, but they lack the technique and athleticism of Europeans. Can anyone imagine Indians scoring against the likes of Vidic, terry, toure etc.??

To say that I am disappointed would be an understatement..:(..I so wanted SC to succeed and get atleast a short term contract with cov city...I am more of a footy fan and would have been over the moon had the move materialised...God knows how many years we would have to wait in order to see an indian rub shoulders withe the la creme de la creme of english football...:(

many sports are about proper biomechanics and technique...athleticism is a supporting cast

cant understand what ur problem is. havent u had enough of ipl and cricket? give footballers a chance. media hype has to be created with so much of cricket news happening.
with time and proper coaching, the day is not far when an indian will score against the like of terry, vidic or toure.have faith man!

HI S T,, Dont mix emotions with reasoning. If not you will end up living in an imaginary world. There was a great hype about Sania. I am sure you know what happened.

there is nothing wrong about sania....the indian coaches failed to correct her serving problems when she was young and her progress is delayed as a result..she still is the real deal and will make some impact in the next season or so..

No actually Sandeep is right . The only reason why we do well in cricket is because athletism plays a smaller role than it does in football. You can see for yourself - Our best short-middle-long distance runners aren't anywhere near the world class standards. I bet that some of the football players are faster than our 100-200m athletes.

probably not in primier league as yet, but they can be tried in 2nd league as happened in the case of coventry. I think indian mid-fielders stand better chance to succeed in euro zone than in fwd or defensive positions as that requires big physique. As far as the skill & stamina is concerned i dont think we really lack it. But its the physical prowess that would continue make the difference in forseeable future.

State of Indian football
by Vasanthan M on Jan 29, 2009 09:59 PM  | Hide replies

"He doesn't fit in our scheme of things", said by a manager of a Championship side lying 14th in the table in the second division of English football. That's ample proof of the state of football in this country. And it's about our best player in the side. May be he was a bit unlucky but I think fitness is our major problem. Anyways well done Sunil Chhetri.

i think with regards to sunil he was always going to struggle to make it to English football because its so much more faster and physical. it would actually be better if he seeks out something in Denmark or Sweeden or other smaller footballing nations in Europe because he might in fact improve. yes. definitely lacking in technique more than fitness. i think he is very quick but not powerful enough nor will the pace of the game there suit him. anyways it was good to see someone like Chris Coleman whos quite a known face ask him to come over for trials. Indian football is certainly looking up. i m sure sooner or later someone is going to make it.
