It was 61 degrees inside.

Anybody in his position would have retired. It was hot @ 61 degrees inside the cauldron of Rod Laver Arena. The grand slam authorities should have covered the stadium under such torrid conditions.
The hottest place in the world is around 66 degrees. How did Roddick survive the heat?

Tournament of retirements
by Manian Vasudevan on Jan 27, 2009 08:00 PM

Incidentally, we came across 3 retirements in 2 days in this edition of Australian Open. Yesterday, two female players had to retire. Today its Djokovic's turn.

...according to latest oxford dictionary, can be defined as a game in which several 100's of players from all over the world compete at an international arena, and in the end, ROGER FEDERER WINS.

Hey he has just lost a tennis match...it's an individual sport.he hasn't left anybody down but himself. Why anybody has to question his determination? It's his choice even if he wants to quit a match everytime...He's a tennis player not a villen.Why...?just because he is not from australia or usa or uk....?

The question is not his determination or commitment, but his consistency and fitness, or the lack of it.

I think he should take a leaf out of Andre Agassi's book. The guy was playing classic tennis even when he was in his late 30's before retiring. That's fitness.

How can a guy who's just 21 be retiring so often? Its really sad.

Agassi and Sampras were a different breed

cant compare these wishy-washy youngies with them

I remember a match Pete played in 4th round of US Open in 1997- he was sick after being on court the day before for 4.5 hours, and he threw up, yet he fought on till he won- the match, later the tournament

His retirement robbed the chance for Roddick to beat him. He should have stuck around till the end. No player likes to win through retirement.
Djokovic has a habit of retiring when he's losing.

Of course it matters. There are fans who buy tickets to these matches who are ripped off when a player retires without good reason. Also, the sponsors who pay for the TV time lose too. It's bad for the sport. I hope Djokovic learns to buck up and fight through tough circumstances - especially when he's losing.
