Federer struggled
by m senthilkumar on Jan 19, 2009 10:17 PM  | Hide replies

I watched the match..Actually federer struggled against Andreas. Fortunatlely for fed, Andreas couldnt covert 10 of his break point opportunities..otherwise match would have gone to four or five sets.. It is clear that Fed is not in top form..Top level palyers surely will give more trouble

I Agree. Couple of years ago he would have walked over Seppi. Yesterday federer was struggling to stay in the match :(
As an ardent Fed Fan, I can only take consolation by thinking along with Fed that Seppi was actually playing better than Rafa, Murray and Djoker. But the fact is, he wasn't and thats bad news..

Also I feel somewhere that though we give a benefit of doubt to Fed for his mononucleosis and lack of match practice at last Australian open that does not feed in to the trashing at French, wimbledon, olympics, Shanghai and many more ATP top circuits. He is on Decline...

I concur. I know mono would have sapped his strength. Now he is healthy but the game changed a lot and Federer didnt. It is quite interesting to see how he plays top level guys this year...

yeah he's on decline but he saves his best for the big matches and slams .

Also perhaps Federer should do some strength training on his arms and biceps because I think he is just a little bit weaker than Nadal or Murray.

Very correct- she is the best we have although she is not world class. We have to cheer her as an indian trying to do her best for her country- no other indian man or woman can play a slam (in singles) right now except her.

Sania in 2nd Round
by Anand Murugkar on Jan 19, 2009 01:20 PM  | Hide replies

Sania Mirza is in 2nd round of Australian Open. She needs support of the nation and not the negativity. We Indians support our Cricket Team despite their ups and downs [More Downs than ups]. Why not these Individual players who have made their mark on their own despite not having proper infrastructure to develop their skills?

Everybody comes in and criticise the player who is going in the worse phase of his/her career. Remember its our support and cheer what they need and not the taunts and lewd/sexual comments.

Hope Rediff moderators terminate the IDs of those who post in such indecent comments on public forum.
