Messi is far better than CR.Only thing is he made goal on weak teams.Think about how he played in CL and Euro 2008. HE dont deserve FIFA player of year award.

Don't forget that it is for the year 2008 and I think CR did better than LM. With due respect to ML, I think CR's talent show was better. Congrats CR

Well it was ronaldo who helped his team win CL and bpl. so messi stands nowhere near to him in that respect..
it all depends how much have u contributed in ur teams victories

this award is presented to the best footballer, who helped his team win tournaments and titles. the same argument popped up last year with kaka and ronaldo. but kaka helped his team win titles, and hence proved his worth very much as ronaldo has done last year. to all of you doubters, if messi is so good, why didnt he show it when his clear rival ronaldo was playing against him in the ucl semifinal.
Come on.. who is in the football world a midfielder can score more than 40 goals and about 50 assists for a team. He very well deserve the award and Kudos to ronaldo.. I am not a ManU fan but support Ronaldo for award.
A player is complete if he wins the biggest tournament for his country.More so if he excels in that tournament.If he wins his club a superior tournament with his excellence.Else he is just forgotten with time.Ronaldo may be footballer of the year after year, but he wont be remembered if he cant give Portugal a World Cup Win.Michel Platini, one of the greatest the game has seen hasnt got his due for the reason France couldnt win WC under him.So has Gullit and many others.

Well you may say that but do you think Eusebio was forgotten with time? or Ryan Giggs who has never played a world cup;Think about Zico or Roberto Baggio and Michel Platini won Euro 1984 with France and his record of 9 goals has not been forgotten.The only people who forget the great are the ones who only watch Soccer World Cup and are not really soccer fans.

if u remember ryan giggs, well then u must remember me playing the local club football too.Your memory is very good, i must say exceptional.I spoke of nomal human memory only.But it is true that unless u win the WC for your country u cant say u are among the greatest or as a player ur dreams would always remain dreams.A successful man is one who has his dreams realised and one who wins the biggest game!

I agree partly. But dont forget football like cricket is a team game. One individual cannot do anything. Yes Portugal has some good players in their side. But to match upto Argentina or Brazil is a tough ask. Dont be so mean. This guy is too good. People are comparing him to the likes of Pele and Maradona for nothing. He has got tremendous skill.
unlike kaka, ronaldo is only a one one season player. his form this season is very poor. kaka is a real talent.even messi is there to stay long. don tthink the same with ronlado

Man Ronaldo is playing outstanding football for a few years now. Yes he was awesome last season. But dont forget this season he was sidelined for quite sometime for his injury. All 3 have their own individual skills and are too good at what they do. Its not correct to point finger at one guy saying he isnt good..
