You S**P**Ds!! Support Saina NOT Sania... Saina is far better athelete than this bulky girl who is always interested in name and fame and not on the game. What the hell has she achieved.. Just becuase conditions favoured her she could pick a racquet at her young age.. As she grew it was Media who is following her every where.. Players like Ana Ivanovic have practiced in swiming pool and this proud girl had far better facilities but look where they are and where this bulky lady is..
On the other hand look at Saina.. She was never in any contreversies.. She concentrates on the game and no Bollywood stars..

I wish all these girls to be under 100. We need to support them instead of calling them names.
I find it amusing how many people criticise Sania Mirza - even the tome of this article is critical. I think this is partly because we are projecting our wants and needs on this girl. We want her to win Pattaya, we want her to win a Grand Slam, we want her to be #1 in the world, etc. I think it is also partly because of her religion which gets her critics both within and external to Islam. I also think she gets criticised because many of us are plain male chauvinists and cannot see a successful woman. Finally, many of us fall prey to the usual Indian crab mentality of pulling down a successful fellow-Indian.
But for all practical purposes, Sania Mirza is simply a super successful phenomenon. How do you define success normally. Should all of us become the CEO of the company we work in? Or is a nice fat salary, reasonable popularity, decent performances from time to time, having fun on the job, etc play a more important role? Well its the same for her.
1) She is the only Indian woman to ever feature at top 100 WTA levels. 2) Only Indian woman to regularly qualify for Grand Slams 3) Only Indian woman to win a Grand Slam doubles title. 4) She's a pretty girl with a go-get-it attitude which makes her very attractive to a whole generation, thats why she does so many ads - the companies know what they are doing and will not unnecessarily sign her up.

5) Why this year alone she has won close to Rs. 45 lakhs in prize money alone, and the year is only 2 months old. How many of us have earned that much in a year? in two years??? in three years?????
Therefore she is a super success - good-looking, best woman tennis player ever from India, will earn crores before she is 25......in anybody's book that is a pure definition of success.
Putting it in another manner, if someone came to me and said here's the deal - your daughter will in the next few years not win any tournament, will reach only 3-4 round in grand slams, but will earn crores of money before she is 25 and still be the best tennis player in India, will u be unhappy? I'll say no way - please bless her with that future - who cares about the tournament wins!!!!!!
So therefore, look at her properly and you see a ROLE MODEL for the Indian girl in SM. Stop projecting your own requirements on her and enjoy the sport spectacle that she truly is. All hail SM - we are your biggest fans!!!!

In summary, we need to realise that she has her limits. She will perhaps never win a Singles tournament, never mind any singles Grand Slam, because there are limits to everyone's achievements physically, and she is at her limit.
SO?
That does not in any way take away from the fact that she is the best tennis player (woman) ever produced by India, the only one to feature in the top 100, to regularly reach grand slams, to win a doubles grand slam, etc etc, good looking, earns in crores, popular, etc etc...
Appreciate what we have rather than lamenting what we have not. No harm in wanting more, but in that process, don't miss appreciating the good that exists.
And stop projecting unreasonable demands on her, without first appreciating what she already is.

Rajeev - thats so true.. People hardly realize how difficult it is to break into top 100 and she was once was a top 30 player.... It is very easy to critise.... we need to understand that she is playing in a altogther different league guys, which is very tough... I have seen people complaining that she has not won grand slam, common guys is that so easy to week a grand slam like a triangular cricket series. For that matter, even Jankovic is yet to win a grand slam and she was number 1 for a short period...
