Rediff has declared Sachin the best cricketer of the decade on the basis of his overall performance (88 centuries). But, here, the topic of discussion is sportsmens' performance in the decade gone by (from 2000-2009). So, for that, Rediff should include only the last 10 years of Sachin's career and not his whole career. We should compare Sachin's performance in the last decade with that of other stalwarts like Kallis, Ponting, Dravid etc. Only then, we will be able to decide who has been the best recently. As far as IPL is concerned, none of its teams was able to reach the top four in the Champions League T20, Oct 2009 (and that also in India!!!). That tells the whole story. IPL might have stunned the cricketing world by its quantity (big & quick money), but has failed in the department of quality.

The heading is " Sportspersons of the decade" CHESS does NOT come under "Sport" catagory but under "Game" catagory like Card game Bridge , spade, puzzle, Board game like carrom etc .Hence ,Vishhy even though Great, is missing.
The World's greatest Master Blaster in terms of runs he scores & the way he conducts himself off the field. Very few comes close to his behavior. Very humble personality, Always down to earth. Controls his emotions & expressions. The only thing which does the talking is his Bat. The most valuable, precious and delightful scene on the cricket field is his taking guard to conquer the world. Its a real treat to watch this God of Cricket batting. His very presence on the ground lifts the entire stadium's spirit. The sight of his on the field moving, fielding, waving, clapping everything & anything is a great feeling to the entire world.(Not just India). The only batsman who has popularized the game so much with his sheer determination and intern made the nation Mad about Cricket and The BCCI-Big boss because of its huge wealth drive in the sport.
Roger Federer stands apart when it comes to best of decade. Tennis Grand slam is Most Difficult among all sporting acuivements. The Reason is SIMPLE - Tennis requires HAND And Leg Combination . One should be expert in Using BOTH - Hand and Leg. Football on Other hand requires only Leg ( hand Prohibited). Cricket even though requires both Hand and Leg, main Difference is Cricketers "Hit the ball and Run" where as Tennis Players Run and Hit the ball, which is tougher. More over Tennis Grand Slam is Physically more demanding than other sporting activies. With all this in mind ,what Roger Federer has achieved is more spectacular than any sportsman in the world.

Narang is Correct. Federer is FOUR Times "Laureus Sports Awardee' which is given for Best sportsman in the WORLD among all sporting acivities accross Globe. The award is Highest and Like OR At Par with " Oscar " in entertainment industry.

I do not agree that tenis is more demanding, becouse it is the individual game where no liability from the nation is counted. If you talk about Cricket and conditions in India like contry, Its more challenging becouse one who is playing in middle has to prove himself in front of crores of own country men and has to pass accros all the axpectations. In fact when Great players like sachin going for batting, we cant understand that how much pressure they have in there mind to score handsome run just becouse crores of national pride & fans, even in such pressure He is passed the expectations lot of times. So in my opinion cricket can not be compaired with any game which is centered arrond Individuals.

Subodh Singh is utterly WRONG. Cricketer's are NOT Playing for Country. It is actually " BCCI" Vs Cricket Australia ( Or the case may be ) India vs Pakistan ( or any country ) is ONLY a Socially accecpted term. It is NOT by act of Parliament or Govt of India is any way invovlve in Cricket . BCCI is a Private Club like Barcelona, Real Madrid etc. So FORGET that Cricket's are playing for country, It is actually taking undue advantage of Country's Name. MoreOver in Tennis there are qualifying rounds before Every Major, either you have to be in Top 100 Or qualify. In case of Cricket with just Eight nations playing regularly, One can decide match on their own with out having tension of qulifying and entering . SO DONT COMPERE ORDINARY GAME LIKE CRICKET WHICH IS IGNORED BY SEVERAL BIG NATIONS WITH THAT OF TENNIS WHICH HAS 125 YEARS OF GLORIOUS GRAND SLAM HISTORY.
First as a Indian,try to support an Indian.Sachin when he first entered into int ckt,he was a night mare for all bowlers,at this age also he scored 175 against aus.I bet all that dhoni or any player cannot score and be consistent like sachin at 36.dhoni or any player will b top for only 5 yrs afterward they r eliminated.see if they r in team at 35 age.then speak about comparing dhoni or any player with sachin
